Draco's POV

"Malfoy..." Potter said out of nowhere. He was helping me practice for our upcoming Quidditch game, which was after break.

"What?"

He flew down and got off his broom, so I followed him.

"Do you....do you fancy Hermione?" he asked. I was shocked. Me? Fancy Granger? Impossible.

"Why would you say that? No offense, Potter, but I strongly strongly dislike her," I responded.

Potter shrugged. "I dunno...you just get so worked up when you see her with Theo."

I laughed. "Don't get ahead of yourself. That's just because he's one of my best mates."

"How's it going with you and her then? I mean, you still live together," he asked.

I sighed. "I'm not going to lie to you, she's a handful. She tries to make small talk with me sometimes, but I can't deal with her."

"Why?"

"Because she keeps reminding me..."

"Reminding you of what?"

"That she's taken."

Potter seemed shocked. I couldn't blame him-I was pretty shocked myself. I did not expect that to come out of my mouth.

A smile crept on to Potter's face. "So you do fancy her after all."

I sighed again. "I swear, Potter, if you say one word I will hex you into oblivion."

Hermione's POV

Malfoy walked into the common room just as I began to go upstairs to pack for my trip with Theo.

"Hi," I greeted.

"Hey," he mumbled. For once he actually said something.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

He turned his head. "Nothing that concerns you."

Don't push it Hermione.

"Alright," I finally said. "I'll be in my room packing." He didn't even look at me.

I began to pack my clothes. I could've done it with my wand, but I found pleasure in doing the little things by myself.

I heard my door open and saw Malfoy walk in. "Do you need something?"

He shrugged. "I need simple answers. And one thing I've learned from going to school with you for seven years is that you almost always have the answers."

I stopped packing and sat down on my bed. "What do you want to know?"

"Why are you really dating Theo? Why do you act so different around me all the time?"

Did he know? Just in case he didn't, I played it off. "I'm dating Theo because he's my best friend." That was partly true. "And I act different around you because I figure that you're uncomfortable with me dating your best friend." At least I was hoping he was uncomfortable. That was the whole point of the plan.

"Uncomfortable? You think I'm just a little bit uncomfortable?" Malfoy said, his voice rising.

"Um yes?"

"That's not it don't you get it? You're dating my best friend, but Theo is dating the girl I fancy! But of course that only makes me a little bit uncomfortable!" he yelled.

I was stunned. This was not a part of the plan. "The girl you fancy?" I asked.

The look of horror on his face when he realized what he said was humorous. But now was not the time for laughter.

He straightened his spine and looked me in the eye. "Stay away from him, do you hear me?"

"You can't tell me what to do!" I yelled. I realize this sounded childish but it was true.

"I don't want you with him!"

"Well cry me a river Malfoy, because it's not up to you!" I was standing up now, face to face with Malfoy. I had to look up at him, which just made me feel even more humiliated.

We started yelling at each other at the same time. Our faces came closers as we bickered. But this wasn't a simple argument.

At the same time, we stopped talking. My eyes quickly drifted to his lips but then snapped back up to his eyes. Those grey eyes stared at me.

There was so much tension between us. So much pent up anger and frustration. But that all disappeared when he pulled me in and kissed me.

After a few seconds, I realized what we were doing and pushed Malfoy away. This was so not the plan.

I backed away and ran out the door.

"Granger wait!" I heard, but kept running.

As I ran, I looked behind me. In that moment, I bumped into someone and fell. It was Theo.

"Hermione? Are you okay?" Theo asked. He noticed the tears streaming out of my eyes and pulled me in for a hug. I cried into his shirt.

After a few minutes, I pulled away and wiped my eyes. "Sorry," I mumbled.

He was puzzled. "What happened?"

"M-Malfoy."

He stood up straighter. "What did he do?" he asked firmly.

I got a hold of myself and began to tell Theo what happened. "He yelled at me because he was mad I was 'dating' you because apparently he fancies me and then he kissed me."

Theo was shocked, an emotion that was quite common for us nowadays. "Hermione did I hear that correctly?" I nodded.

"Stay right here," he told me, and started marching off.

"Wait!" I called after him. "What are you going to do?"

"We may not be actually dating, but he hurt you, Hermione. You're still my friend."

I smiled and ran up to him. "Thank you Theo, but please don't do anything. Just come with me to help me finish packing. Then we'll leave together. Please," I begged him. I didn't want anything drastic occurring before I had the chance to figure out what exactly was happening.

He finally gave in. "Fine, but I'm staying next to you the entire time." I nodded.

No POV

Little did they know, Blaise Zabini was hiding nearby, listening to the entire conversation.
