How could she be so effortlessly beautiful? She doesn't even understand the control she holds over me. She is my weakness but, at the same time, my strength. I would do anything for her and that scares me.

I admired the way she observed the scenery as it passed by. But in the midst of my admiration, I almost ran a red light.

"Asher! What the hell?! Are you trying to kill us?!" Scarlett panicked grabbing hold of the "oh shit" bar that was above her window.

"Sorry babe! I was just distracted for a second." Distracted by her...

"Distracted by what?!" Her breathing was still accelerated. I kept my eyes focused on the light so I was sure not to miss when it turned green and I smiled.

"Nothing, baby, don't worry about it." She let it go and returned to looking out her window. I was in autopilot taking Scarlett right to where I would go to relax. No one I knew knew about my place and that was the way I liked it, but I had no trouble taking Scar there. She didn't ask any questions until I pulled into a parking space outside of a small lighthouse gift shop.

"What are we doing here?" Scarlett asked.

"I want to show you something," I said grinning.

I walked her into the shop holding her hand. "Hi Charlie!" I greeted the nice, old man who owned the entire lighthouse.

"Well hi, Asher. Who's your friend?"

I lead Scarlett over to the counter with my hand resting on her lower back. "This is my girlfriend, Scarlett," I introduced her. "Scarlett, this is Charlie; he owns this lighthouse."

"It's nice to meet you, Charlie," she smiled at him.

"It's very nice to meet you, Ms. Scarlett. Asher here never brings anyone here with him, and after what happened with Kelsey I'm surprised he brought a girl." My eyes widened slightly. Why did Charlie have to bring up Kelsey?!

"I'm here to put all his broken pieces back together. I know how horrible she was to him and his family so I'm just striving to be the best girlfriend I can be," she gave me a slight smile and wrapped her arm around me giving me a half hug.

My heart swelled with her words. She had such a hard exterior around most people. I'm so glad I chose to bring here here because she seemed to let her guard down a bit around Charlie.

"You seem like a lovely girl. Well, Asher, the door is unlocked, you can head on up."

"Thanks Charlie." I told Scarlett to follow me and lead her up a winding staircase. When we got to the top she slowly walked to the windows of the lighthouse overlooking the ocean. She wasn't saying anything and that made me nervous, but I calmed myself down by reminding myself of what she had said downstairs.

I stood behind her as she continued to observe the ocean in silence.

"Say something," I couldn't take it anymore. She turned around with her gaze set on her shoes. When her eyes met mine they were slightly red with tears slowly filling in. "Scar, why are you crying?" I asked with worry dripping from my words. I desperately needed an answer as my pulse became frantic.

"You never bring people here, and you brought me. Seeing how happy Charlie looked when you introduced me as your girlfriend was incredible but also saddening because that means he understands the shit you've been through with girls. I wish I hadn't been so hard-headed when you initially asked me to be your girlfriend. Any girl would be lucky to have you and you chose me. You chose to trust me and I should feel lucky, and finally I do." One stray tear escaped and I stepped closer to her to wipe it away with my thumb. I took her face in my hands and kissed her. I wanted her to feel how much she meant to me.
