Scarlett and Asher sat at the kitchen table enjoying the Saturday morning breakfast that Danielle made for the family. Scarlett's bruises were beginning to fade but the scars would remain both on her person and in her heart. The only thing pushing her through everything was her undeniable love for Asher and knowing he was by her side.
"Update on the Harper brothers' trials," the words that rang through the television speakers in the family room perked up the ears of the whole family.
"May I be excused?" Scarlett asked with wide eyes wanting to get to the television to see what update was in store.
"I think we should all be excused, dear," Danielle said and stood from the table with Scarlett to scurry into the family room. Asher soon walked up behind Scarlett and wrapped his arms around her as he peppered kisses over her shoulder.
"As the trials come to a close, the guilty verdict was reached, giving Max Harper 20 years of time in prison, and CJ Harper 5 to 10 years. The victim of the Harper brothers' crimes, Scarlett McCana has been recovering from her injuries with the Jennings family. Our thoughts are with her as we hope for a speedy recovery. I was able to personally speak with Scarlett after her time on the stand at the trial and have nothing but respect for this strong young woman who was put through immense amounts of torture that most of us only deal with in our nightmares." Danielle shut off the tv and all attention turned to Scarlett.
"Only 5-10 years?" She shivered.
"It's okay, babe, we'll be long gone by the time he's out. Don't even worry."
Scarlett smiled, "I can't wait until we're in California."
"Me either, my love, it's just you and me against the world."
