Recap:
"(Y/n)?" Elise called from the kitchen.
"Coming!" you replied as you rushed downstairs.
You walked into the kitchen and saw Elise hanging up the phone. "What's up?" you asked.
Elise turned to you and took a deep breath. "The tests came back," she said. You perked up at this and stood rigidly, your whole body tensing as you dreaded to hear the answer. Your mouth dropped open in surprise when Elise continued.
"They're positive."
Present:
A few days later, after a lot of paperwork and reassurances, Dean adopted you. You were packing all of your possessions into your duffle bag now, making sure not to forget the key your mother had left with you. You were zipping it up just as Elise knocked on your door gently and entered.
"Dean's downstairs waiting for you," she said.
You nodded and threw the strap over your shoulder. When you turned around you were face to face with Elise. You finally saw the sadness in her eyes as tears formed and her lip quivered slightly.
You dropped your bag and immediately hugged her. Tears began to form in your eyes, too, but you dare not let them fall.
"I'm gonna miss you so much," Elise whispered as she ran a hand through your hair.
"I'm gonna miss you, too," you mumbled.
Elise slowly pulled away and set her hands on your shoulders. "I wish you the best of luck."
You smiled a little. "Thanks."
You picked up your duffle bag and threw it back over your shoulder before walking out of your room with Elise behind you. You two walked down the stairs until you were standing in front of Dean. He stood there with a small smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, and you could tell that he was nervous yet excited.
"You ready?" Dean asked as his gaze turned to you.
You swallowed, took a breath, and nodded. "Yeah. I am."
You walked over to Dean and he gently took the bag away from you. He offers you a smile and you return it, although a little sadly. After giving another quick goodbye to Elise, you were out of there.
Dean put your duffle bag into the backseat of his Impala as you got into the passenger seat. The doors, you noticed, were very creaky and were in desperate need of oil.
Dean hopped into the driver's seat and started the Impala before shifting her into gear and driving off. You glanced behind you and saw Elise standing in the doorway, watching you leave. You turned back around in your seat and stared at the road ahead of you.
"So," you started awkwardly. "You drive a '67 Chevy Impala. That's cool."
Dean smiled in pride. "Yeah. This here's my Baby!"
"Hey! I thought I was your baby! I'm your child, after all," you said as you crossed your arms over your chest, feigning annoyance and hurt.
