~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~CHAPTER 5~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When we got to my house we put away the rest of the groceries then made Daren made us lunch. It was pretty good but I don't really know what it was. The taste was one that I don't recall ever tasting.
"What is this?" I ask.
"It's a family recipe. I found the ingredients to it while we were putting away the groceries. The ingredients are very practical and you probably didn't even know you could make all of this without planning." he replied.
"Ha. Probably not, but what exactly is the meal?"
"Oh umm well its cheesy pasta."
This sounded kind of gross considering cheese isn't exactly one of my favorite foods. I picked at my food while I could feel Daren's eyes intently staring upon me. It was weird because I've never had that gooey feeling inside like I have now. I've read it in books and seen actors act it out in movies, but I've never felt it in my life. Daren must've noticed something because then he took his eyes off of me, stood up, and took our plates to the dishwasher.
"Don't put those in there. I will hand wash them, because I don't want Shawn to know you came over." I told Daren. He simply mentioned an okay and slipped out of the living room and upstairs. When I asked what he was doing, he said he was just exploring. I followed him as he went into my room.
"Okay we know this is my room, can we get out now?" I muttered quietly.
"Nope, I think your room is perfect." he answered.
"Well, let's get out."
"I don't think so." Daren said as he sat down on my untidy, unmade bed.
"Well it's not clean and that's embarrassing. Can we just get out?"
"The fact that it's messy makes it more perfect."
Daren's comment made me blush, and then he laughed at me. I wondered why he was laughing at me, but I didn't bother to try and find out. We just sat in my room, silent, and watched TV. Finally, I said something similar to this is getting boring, so we got up, went downstairs, and then decided that we could go do something else since Shawn would be coming home soon and we still have two more hours of school. As we were getting in the car, we heard glass shatter. I was immediately frightened to the point where I was paralyzed. My body was too shocked to even get in the car, so Daren had to shove me in the car, take my car keys, and drove away as fast as possible.
"What happened?" I asked.
Daren answered my question in a very grave tone, "They've found you. They've found me. Now they're going to hunt us, hunt us until we give in."
"WHAT! What are you talking about? Those were just poor, innocent humans trying to get out of the burning house!"
"No, Kelsa. No they weren't even the slightest bit human. Those.... those..... Those things are the worst thing you could possibly imagine. I thought all they wanted was your mother, but I was wrong. They never wanted your mother at all. All along they just wanted you, you and me, of course. But they've always wanted me, so it's nothing new."
I had no idea what he was talking about, so I just started blabbing, "My mom was killed by my dad, not those things."
"You thought your dad left you because he no longer cared about you and your mom and your brother. But you're wrong Kelsa Faine, you're wrong. He left because he thought he was protecting you. He thought those things wanted him and only him. Your dad was wrong, terribly wrong. They didn't want him or your mother. All they want is you, and your parents just got in the way of that. Kelsa, you and your family are not who you think you are, something absolutely different from what you think, what you were raised as. I'm that way too, but I was raised in my original nature. I was raised how you and your brother were supposed to be raised. Your parents thought that they could protect you by raising you in the mundane world. Sadly, they were wrong, wrong by the longest shot ever."
