Chance

It had been a couple weeks since we had moved into the new house. I loved Joy and Evergreen, but I missed Chance.

That very day I got a letter. It was from Julie.

Dear Chastity,
I have urgent and sad news. This week we had Viviane ride Chance. She did good till Viviane headed her towards a pretty big double bar. Chance freaked out right before the jump, and bucked Viviane off. I know you might be thinking 'Whats the big deal?' Well, Viviane got killed. And her parents are suing. We will have to get rid of some horses. I can't tell you which ones, but I bet you can guess.

Sorry to bother you with such sad and depressing news, but I thought you'd wanna know.

P.s. We found out that Chance was severally beaten before, and now she's terrified of jumping.

I felt tears start to well up in my eyes as I read the letter. Since Viviane's parents where suing, that probably meant Chance was gonna get Euthanized or sold. I showed the letter to my parents. They smiled sadly then went off somewhere to talk.

A couple days later, a big truck with a trailer attached to it pulled up in front of my house. Julie jumped out of the old, baby blue pickup.

"Julie!" "Chastity? Chastity! It's good to see you again. And I brought someone else with me." The sound of a door slamming alerted me it was a person. Ashley walked around the side of the pickup.

But she didn't smile or run over to hug me. She just waved and looked at the ground. "Ashley's dad died in a car crash on Saturday. And then her mom committed suicide."

"What about Citrus and Arrow?" "There in the trailer. Your parents said Ashley could live with you guys for now. Her luggage is in the back of the truck and the front of the trailer."

I watched Julie grab bags and I jogged over to help. We brought the bags to the room across the hall from mine. It was identical to my room, and my bathroom, accept her wall paper was a really cool neon purple and mine was neon yellow.

After we had everything in Ashley's new room, me and her went to unload them. As soon as I opened the trailer, Ashley yelled "Surprise!" I almost cried at what I saw.

Chance was standing peacefully there, eating hay. She thrust her head over my shoulder when she saw me. I smiled.

"Ashley, are your parents really dead?"
"Yes, Chast, they are." I grabbed Chance's and Cirtus's lead ropes and waited for Ashley to grab Arrow. Ashley grabbed her and pulled her out. She was just like I had remembered her.

After all the horses were put away, with food and water, me and Ashley went inside.

"So, what happened?" "Well my mom was crying when I came in from riding, and when I found out my dad died, I went riding again. When I came back, a bottle of pills was lying on the table. She wouldn't wake up and after I called 911, they pronounced her dead."

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Ashley. I don't know what else to say." "It's ok. I get to live with you and Chance." I hugged her and we both went to our rooms.

Julie left a couple hours later. I knew that live now would be great. Especially because me and Chance would get to live together.
