Bills POV

Now I know why Loca changed. I can't blame poppy there's nothing she could do. We have to go see him before... Before... we just need to tell him the truth. He can't die thinking his only friend betrayed him. Poppy looks shocked, scared, upset and every other bad emotion you could think of.

"Poppy I know where he is. You need to talk to him. There's no way to free him though. I've seen these places on TV, their completely secure. I know where and when you can talk to him too. I used to talk to him until he changed. So let's go?" Poppy just nods and stands up. I can tell she's thinking so I lead the way. Both our girls are out so we have a few hours.

"Poppy, slow down! He's got another hour yet!" I'm trotting my fastest but poppy is faster.

"Sorry. I'm just nervous."

"It's okay. Look we're here." I point to the small building and I can tell poppy recognises it. The sound of barking fills the air.

"Where can we find him?"

"This way." We trot up to a small run where dangerous dogs are put to exercise. Loca is in the run slumped in the corner. He has accepted his fate.

"Loca..." Poppy's voice wavers as she calls out to him. She creeps slowly up to Loca and stops right next to the fence. I stay where I am. I can see them from here but I can't hear them. I don't want to ears drop but I also don't want poppy to get hurt again.

Poppy's POV

"Loca..." I creep up to the pen. What will he think? Will he forgive me? He turns as I reach the fence. I sit.

"Why are you here? You deserted me once why not do it again."  He doesn't sound mad... He sounds emotionless.

"I need to tell you what happened that night."

"Well, I can't go anywhere so go ahead." I consider leaving him alone.  This is my only chance to tell him the truth though.

"That night, you distracted the guard and I dug right?" He nods slightly. "Well we had a signal. I gave you the signal and ran. We had decided to not stop running until we were far away. I assumed you were behind me but I was wrong. When I turned around they were closing the door. There was nothing I could do." He has tears in his eyes. I guess I really hurt him that night.

"I wasted all this time... I tried to hunt you down after I escaped. I was hurt. I changed. All those years wasted on a misunderstanding and now look were I am. I should have just forgotten but... you were my only friend. I don't know what I was thinking. What have I done?" Tears are streaming down his cheeks now.

"It's okay. I have to get you out of here."

"There's no point. Please leave me. I'm fine with it now. The only reason I wanted to live was to find you. Now everything's back to normal. I can die knowing you don't hate me and I have a friend."

"No please..." Now I'm in tears. Loca was my first friend. I have to save him! I jump up on the fence. "Please Loca I can help you! You can't die yet your too young! Please! Come with me, you can live with me and my girl. We can be together as a happy family!" I'm hysterical now, I see a guard with a pole coming towards us. No, it can't be time yet!

"LOCA WE HAVE TO GO NOW! PLEASE! YOU CANT LEAVE ME!" I scratch at the fence and bark and cry. He can't go. The bond I had with him when we were in the kennels has come back. I can't lose it again.

"Poppy, it's okay. Don't miss me. We'll meet again one day." One last tear falls down his face and he is lead of. I hear his scream and collapse to the ground in tears. My first true friend. Gone, just like that. I cry on the floor and feel a paw on my back. He could have lived.  If he let me dig him out or attack the guard or steal the keys or or... what's the point it's over. I miss him so much already.
