Bills POV
"Awwww come look at these two love birds!" They have to stop waking us up like this! I lift my head of poppys back and untangle myself. I stand on the pastel rug and stretch. Memories from earlier this morning flooding my brain. I almost told her. What was I thinking!? That would just ruin our friendship. Anyway, nows not a good time. We have to sort out Ace.
I waddle back over to poppy who failed to wake up. She's cute when she sleeps. She's curled in a tight ball on the soft blue cushion. Her tail is over her nose making her look like a sleeping fox.i don't want to wake her but I'm so excited about today. We are doing agility AND dock diving! Plus we get to do it with our new friends (Hopefully Ace will stay away just for the day.)
"Come on poppy. Wake up." I nudge her but there's no response. "Poppy come on we gotta go." I push her a little more forcefully. She dosnt even stir. "Poppy what's wrong? Wake up!" I shake her and push her but she won't move. I step back. She's not breathing. My breath quickens and I nuzzle her face. "Come on poppy. Wake up. Please." I start to panic and collapse. This can't be happening!
I wake up shaking with tears in my eyes. I feel movement next to me. My eyes adjust to see poppy, she's sat there staring at me with a confused and concerned expression.
"Bill what's wrong? You've been acting strange recently. Remember, you promised no secrets." I sigh. I have to tell her, but not here.
"I'll tell you. But can we go outside for a walk first." I stand up. I don't want to tell her yet though. What am I going to do now?
"Sure let's go." Poppy stands up and waits for me to take the lead. I reluctantly lead her outside to the tree lined drive of RiverwoodAcademy. We sit under one of the huge oaks. Her fur shimmering in the rising sun and dew.
"So what do you need to tell me?" Poppy tilts her head slightly. The light bounces of her soft, ebony fur and onto the dew covered grass. I guess it's now or never.
"Poppy I had a dream last night. It felt real though. I dreamed that you had died. It was horrible, I don't ever want that to happen. I wanted to tell you something early this morning when Ace interrupted. I wanted to tell you that I.. I ummm" My body shivers with nerves, excitement and anticipation. Now or never. "I... I kinda love you a tinsy bit." Poppy smiles and giggles a bit. How can a dog be so cute? "Okay it's a lot more than a tinsy bit. It's like, alot." I drop my head. Surely I've just ruined our friendship.
"I definitely didn't expect you to have the guts to finally say that!" Poppy laughs hysterically. I laugh a bit but I'm confused. Is she laughing at me?
"What's so funny?" I tilt my head and look at her pumkin eyes. They shimmer with life and happiness.
"Bill you talk in your sleep! I've known for a long time! I didn't want to tell you because I wanted to know how much you actually loved me. It broke my heart when Ace interrupted you this morning. I'm just glad he isn't here now." Omg I talk in my sleep! What else does she know? She has a mischievous grin on her face. Oh no. What has she heard?! I lie down and put my paws over my eyes. Poppy laughs at me and pushes my paws aside. She licks my nose and trots back up the drive leaving me paralysed under the oak tree. Does she love me back? What are we now? I hope I haven't ruined things.
