Chapter Eight

Daniel has a hand on my wrist, elbow, or shoulder, helping me gather my Cheerios onto a spoon to eat it.

Allison is devestated. I've talked to her personally and now she understands why I did it. Chemo is a bitch and I didn't want to suffer through its wrath.

Joey hasn't said much, Shane's been talking my ear off. All he keeps saying is about how you need to have confidence in the decisions you make in life. He's right.

Today is the big day, I'm going home. Everyone, when they're all over for dinner, find out when we're leaving for Disney. I don't even know.

Daniel presses one hand to my elbow, the other on my shoulder. Tyler holds the same grip on my other arm.

"I don't want you to do any work, Cassie. Let us get you up, okay? Don't bend your knees. Just let us move you" I nod and The two boys help me up. I wince in pain and then I'm taking small in my red wheelchair. I'm going to miss walking. I'm going to miss life. I'm going to miss so much of Dylan's life. But as long as I fight as long and as hard as I possibly can, I've tried to be here for him for as long as I can.

"You ready to go?" Shane asks and I nod, smiling up at him.

"Yeah" I sigh.

"Don't be sad. You should be happy!" I muster up a smile. I should be happy.

Daniel takes a grip on the arms of the wheelchair. Even though I can move my joints, my legs aren't strong enough yet to withstand all my body weight.

He pushes me out the doors and into the elevator.

"Danny?" I ask him and get a hum of acknowledgement in response. "Where? I- sleep?"

"Don't worry about it right now, baby. You're going to be in bed and you'll be nice and safe" I nod after thanking him.

We make it into the elevator and I pull my beanie down over my ears once more.

I start the music through my earbuds and close my eyes.
