"I'm sorry.""I'll close my eyes so I don't see, the love you don't have when you're holding me."
I think it was that time where Winter stopped becoming so cold and when the plants started to grow when I felt you slipping away. It felt like treacherous vines had managed to wrap around the walls you put up, making me slice my hands on the thorns every time I tried to climb them.
You looked at me with forced wonder and admiration behind those eyes, causing my eyebrows to knit in distress. Your hand didn't hold mine as tightly as it had done before. Your lips weren't as patient. Your words weren't as comforting.
I remember the first time I knew something was wrong. I looked up at you and your eyes were latched onto the lit screen of your mobile device. I had asked you about your day to which you dismissed by holding up a single finger. Like a trainer would to their dog. Silencing them.
I remember pushing away from the table and hurriedly moving away from you and this time, you didn't stop me. You allowed me to storm away like a raging bull that had seen red.
I laid in bed for hours. Three to be exact.
"Evelyn."
You called. But my heart didn't explode into the fireworks and sparks as it did before. Instead it twisted in agony.
"I'm sorry."
But you weren't. And deep down I knew it. I just didn't know what to say.
So I foolishly believed you.
