  Rey

Back in Captain Solo's worn freighter, we race off away from the Imperial TIEs to heaven-knows-where! I wish I knew where we were going, but nobody seems to have the faintest idea. Hot on our tail are at least a few dozen Tie fighters. I can hear their screams as we streak past, the blasts as they shoot off their torpedoes, turbo lasers, and laser cannons all at us. Our own laser cannons cry back in protest, providing covering fire, shooting consistently, rapidly from both belly turrets and the cockpit. It feels weird to be sitting at the controls of any ship let alone such a famous one. I've never really flown anything other than my land speeder and a test flight on an X-Wing which ended in the luckiest of crashes which I survived. But, Captain Solo insisted I join him in the cockpit, saying he'd teach me all I need to know. When I agreed to occupy the copilot's chair, he acted very excited, almost in a creepy way. He'd grinned from ear to ear, guiding me to the cockpit and kicked the wookiee Chewbacca out of the seat.
"Turn up the hyperdrive motivator's power," he instructs me and I reach over to the middle of the controls board and pull the proper lever down. My hands shake with excitement, nervousness, and something like fear as we race from the TIEs. I still don't entirely understand what's so important about this particular weapon and whoever has it, but I do know this is some rotten luck I've gotten myself into. I am nobody and i do not belong in a famous ship, flying copilot for a famous captain of the rebellion (As he claims to be), holding someone else's lightsaber. This is all wrong and I should be back on Jakku telling people exactly all this. My name is Rey and I am no one. My name is Rey and I am no one. My name is Rey and I am no one! How could I possibly become someone? And who could I possibly be? I am Rey. I am from Jakku and I had an ordinary life until I met a stormtrooper who didn't like the Empire, found a lightsaber, and met a retired smuggler who seems too interested in me. I am Rey and my life is no longer normal.

Phew, phew, phew! the enemy fire goes off again, jerking me out of my tired reverie. Warning lights go off on the heads-up display and Han mutters a vile Corellian curse that would make even an aqualish blush. "Chewie!" he yells over the comm system to the wookiee who is in a belly turret, defending the ship with Finn. "We need to get the Imps off our tail before we get any closer to the base. Leia's not going to like calling in Lando and Wedge to take care of them." The wookiee growls back in response, firing away and destroying a couple TIEs in only a few shots.

"There's still too many, Captain!" I warn. "We're going to end up with at least a couple following us the whole way!"

"Not on my watch, kid! Load the baradium missiles."

  "How many?"

  "All of them."
"All of them?! Are you crazy?!"

"Kid, you'd better get used to this fast. Crazy is how I like to fly."

"But that's a complete waste of wea-"
"Rey, trust me. I've been at this game since before you were born. I know what I'm doing. Now, load the missiles and launch them!"

Sighing heavily, I do as he says and send all four of the missiles hurtling towards the TIE fighters. Three more of them go down, but plenty still remain. "I've got a bad feeling about this, Captain."
"Yeah, yeah. Everyone does. Just trust me, kid. I may be older than you, but I still got a few tricks up my sleeves."
"And just where exactly are we going?!"

  "You talk a lot."
"I'm kind of waiting for an answer here."
  "And you're feisty."

"What is this, some lame attempt at kidnapping?"
"Scratch that. You're just like your mother."
  "Excuse me?!"
He stops for a moment with me, stares at me long and hard, nothing else mattering for the time being. He seems to be studying me, assessing every feature of mine. Yep, he's a stalker. "Rey, please. Just trust me."
  "Give me one good reason."
"Rey, sweetheart, I didn't want things to be this way. Neither of us did, but we couldn't do anything, Rey. It wasn't our fault."

He doesn't say anything more, just leaves the moment to silence. the moment goes awkward for me and, for the quickest moment, I seriously consider running for my life. "Who are you?"

  "That doesn't matter, Rey."

  "No! Who are you?"

"What really matters is who are you?"

"I don't know! No one ever told me!"

  "I'm sorry, Rey."
