"Miss Sarisa," a doctor announces.
Paul and I stand up.
"Please follow me."
We follow the doctor into an examination room and he motions for us to take a seat. I sit on the black and red chair, and Paul takes a seat next to me on the black and grey chair. The doctor faces me and I read his name tag. Dr. Peter Mason. Dr Mason studies me up and down for a second before referring to the word document on his computer.
"We need to test your blood to see if it matches the blood of the victims of a savage car accident," Dr Mason says. "If that is alright with you that is."
I nod. "It's alright with me."
"Are you Miss Sarisa's guardian?"
Paul looks at me warily. "You may as well say that."
Dr Mason looks surprised. "You are not related to Miss Sarisa?"
"No. My fiancee and I found her the day of the accident."
"Ah. That makes you Mr Stone."
"Yes."
"I will write down that you are Miss Sarisa's temporary guardian until we can find living relatives somewhere in Ontario."
Dr Mason types some stuff into his computer before saving the document and exiting the app. He then picks up his phone and presses a number. It rings for a second before a feminine voice sounds. They have a quick conversation before Dr Mason hangs up.
"Okay. Miss Sarisa," Dr Mason says. "Dr Scott is ready to do the blood test. When you are ready please go to the examination room down the hall."
I nod and stand up. I walk out the door and Paul follows me without a moments hesitation. We head to examination room two and Dr Scott opens the door after the first knock. She steps back and allows us to enter. I take a seat on the bed and Paul sits on the chair next to it. Dr Scott closes the door and takes a seat across from me.
"Are you okay, Miss Sarisa?" Dr Scott asks. "You look a little pale."
I laugh. "I am always this pale."
"Oh. That explains it."
Paul chuckles and Dr Scott smiles warmly at me. She takes out a strange apparatus and walks over to me. She wipes the spot on my arm where the needle is going to go in and sets up the apparatus. A needle is jabbed into my vein and I jerk at the sharp sting. I quietly pray that I don't start healing with the needle in my arm.
Just as I start to heal, Dr Scott pulls the needle out and sticks a band-aid on the spot where the needle went in. She places the vial of my blood in a weird spinning thing, along with five other vials of blood. Rixon Sarisa. Stephanie Sarisa. Gracia Sarisa. Nathaniel Sarisa. Jaxon Sarisa. The fifth one catches my attention. Jaxon.
"Miss Sarisa," Dr Scott says. "Is something wrong?"
"Jaxon," I breathe.
Paul looks at me in shock. "Who's Jaxon?"
"Where is he? Where is Jaxon?"
Dr Scott frowns. "In examination room three. Why?"
"I need to see him," I say. "Can I?"
"I don't see why not."
I jump off the bed and hurry towards the door, stumbling slightly. I open the door and grab the door frame as I begin to wobble. Paul grabs my arm and steadies me before I rip my arm out of his grasp and hurry to the room where Jaxon is.
I open the door and see Jaxon laying on the bed. There is no doctor in there with him. I stumble over to him and he jerks when I almost fall on top of him. He helps me stand properly and then half hugs me. I start sobbing and he just holds me tighter.
"You said I wasn't going to forget," I sob. "You lied to me."
"Vi," Jaxon says quietly. "It's alright. Just breathe."
"You lied."
"No I didn't. I stopped them from messing with your head, but I guess I wasn't strong enough."
"You are stronger than me."
Jaxon pulls back and cups my face in his hands. He wipes my tears away with his thumbs and smiles sadly at me. Paul pushes open the door and stops in his tracks when he sees me with Jaxon. Paul tears me away from Jaxon, and a screech escapes me as I fall backwards and smash my head on the door post, pain rocketing through me.
"VI!" Jaxon yells, jumping off his bed and hurrying over to me.
"Stay away from her!" Paul warns.
"She's my sister! You have no right!"
"I have every right. I am her guardian."
"And I am actually related to her, you idiot!"
"Jaxon..." I whimper.
Paul looks at me.
"Let me past," Jaxon growls. "Or so help me you are going to regret not letting me past."
I struggle to sit up and, without warning, Jaxon pushes past Paul and pulls me into his arms. I bury my head in the crook of his neck and he shivers, his skin reacting to my warm breath. Paul walks straight out of the room and slams the door behind him. Jaxon pulls back slightly and looks down at me, his eyes bright with anger.
"Go on," Jaxon urges. "I know you need it."
I almost lunge for his throat, and bite down. Jaxon groans and holds me closer, burying his head in my hair. He soon pulls me away and I have to fight myself. I want to go back to what I was doing, but I don't want him to end up like the people in the car; our family. I wipe my mouth and look up at him, causing him to laugh.
He grabs the pack of wet cloths and hands me one. He cleans the blood off his throat and I scrub my mouth, getting off every last trace of blood. Jaxon takes the wet cloth from me and throws both of them into the bin. He then just holds me close, and I respond instantly, holding him tightly. This continues until the door opens, revealing Paul and Dr Mason.
"Let go of her, Jaxon," Dr Mason warns.
"It's alright," I tell them. "He's harmless."
"He is a convicted criminal, Miss Sarisa."
"He is my brother!"
"Unless you can give him an alibi for the time of the murder at 1333 Bloor Street the other night, then please refrain from saying anything."
I glare at Dr Mason. "He was with me all night."
Paul looks at me sharply, but doesn't say anything.
"I'm sorry for not telling you, Paul, but it is the truth."
Dr Mason nods. "It is not against the law for a brother to visit his sister, Mr Stone."
Jaxon goes rigid.
"Jaxon?" I ask. "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing."
"Okay."
"Violetta," Paul says sharply. "Let's go. Mary is getting worried."
"Jaxon is coming with me," I say, leaving Paul no chance to argue.
I help Jaxon up and lead him out to Paul's car, Paul himself trailing behind us. I climb in the back with Jaxon and close the door behind me. Paul reluctantly climbs in the driver's seat and starts the car. He drives us to the closest shopping center and gives Jaxon and I money to go get Jaxon some clothes.
We do so, and also end up buying him a black leather bag that is the same make and style as my deep red leather bag. We put all of his clothes, his shoes, his black journal, his new toothbrush, and his new hairbrush into the leather bag. We then hurry back out to the parking lot to find that neither Paul nor his car were anywhere in sight.
Now we have to walk back to the apartment...
