As weeks went by, Bella began to regain parts of her memory. At least, everything she needed to know. She began getting memories of her friends and family, and that was what mattered. Today was the day she was getting released.
"Bella."
"Hmmm," she responded lazily, trying to snuggle back into her pillow.
"Bella," the voice tried again, in a teasing tone.
She groaned louder
"Okay, fine. You leave me no choice."
Bella immediately felt two hands dancing up and down her ribs.
"No! No stop please," she tried to say, but her laughter wasn't making it easy.
"Okay, okay, fine I'm up!"
She turned in her bed to see the person that had upheld his promise throughout her recovery.
"I should've known it was you. No one else would be that cruel," she said trying to be serious, but failing miserably.
Troy smiled. "Of course it was me. I'm the only one who thinks you deserve cruel and unusual punishment," he said with a grin.
She shook her head and laughed. She was so happy that she'd remembered basically everything at this point, because forgetting Troy had really sucked. He'd been there for her the entire time, making her laugh, and just generally making her time at the hospital bearable. And as much as she didn't want to, she ended up falling for him all over again. Don't blame yourself, she thought. Not falling for Troy is almost physically impossible. She was shaken out of her thoughts as Troy grabbed her attention.
"Whatcha thinkin' about?"
"Eh. Everything really. I've been out of school for like a month."
"Yeah I know. And you've been excused from all of your work. Totally unfair."
"Oh, well why don't you get yourself concussed and then we'll see whose lucky."
Troy laughed. "I just might."
Bella playfully rolled her eyes at him until he finished laughing.
"But really. How's the team holding up without me."
Troy gave her a smile. Of course Bella would be asking about football.
"They're okay. We all miss you. I mean, I know I'm good,-"
She cut him off with a snort
"-but Bella, you're irreplaceable. We all can't wait until you get back. Especially me."
"Oh? And why would that be?"
Troy froze. He'd have to play this off cool. He couldn't let her know about his feelings. Not yet. But it would be so easy. She's right here, and it's the perfect set up for it. He mulled it over for less than a second, than made up his mind. No. I want Bella to be fully healed when I tell her.
"Troy? You still in there," Bella asked as she tapped his head with her pointer finger.
"Yeah."
"Well, you gonna answer my question?"
"Because you're my number one QB, Bella."
She smiled. "Aw, your too sweet."
Troy internally did a victory dance. Although that was true, he'd barely evaded telling her the real truth. I've gotta be more careful.
"Hey Bella, if you want, I can convince your mom to let you come to the game tomorrow."
Bella's eyes were as wide a saucers.
"That is, if you even want to. I don't know if-"
Bella cut him off by rapping her arms around him.
"Yes, yes, yes," she shouted.
Troy grinned down at her. "Well then, I guess we're going to the game tomorrow."
She looked up at him with confusion written all over her face.
"But I thought you had to ask my mom."
"Please Bella. You know I asked her before I came to visit you today."
"You sly dog," Bella said with a smirk.
"I know," he said, smugness clear in his voice.
They looked at each other for a bit until Bella broke the silence.
"Well wonder boy," she started. "Get me outta here."
Troy helped her into a wheelchair to roll her out to the front. "With pleasure, my fair Bella," he said in a pretend British voice. Bella laughed and smacked his hand lightly. He could call her whatever he wanted. She was finally free from this place, and she couldn't have been happier.
If only she'd known that the happy feeling wouldn't even last through the game.
_______________________________Oooooh, cliff hanger.
Not really, but a girl's gotta dream.
And I know this chapter is mad short compared to the others, but it was mostly a filler chapter. The next one will be longer I swear.
