When Bella finally opened her eyes, she had to immediately close them because she was greeted by a blinding white light. Am I dead? She instantly crossed off that conclusion when she tried to adjust her position on the bed, letting out a groan in the process. No way am I dead. It wouldn't still hurt this much if I was. She lifted her head up as much as she could without hurting it, and surveyed the room. It was empty, except for the figure to her right, who was sleeping with a head facedown on the bed, and a hand lightly grasping her own. It didn't take a genius to figure out who it was. I wonder how long he's been here. Just as she moved her arm in an attempt to regain feeling in the numb limb, Troy's head shot up, almost ad if he'd fallen asleep at school and a teacher had just dropped a textbook on his desk.
"What happened," he asked, still disoriented from his nap. He then looked up at her, and a lip spitting grin made its way across his face.
"Bella! You're okay!" Troy couldn't help himself as he wrapped his arms around her tight.
"Ouch! Troy, calm down. I'm fine. Well I will be once you stop squeezing my ribs," she said with a wince.
"Shit! Sorry," he said, an embarrassed smile making its way across his face.
She let out a small chuckle, but her face suddenly twisted into a look of pure agony.
"Woah, woah, take it easy Bella. You're still hurt."
"I'm fine. Well I will be once I'm out of this damn bed," she grunted.
"Yeah, well get comfy. You'll be here for at least two weeks. And that's being foolishly optimistic."
She couldn't believe her luck. She'd just gotten better, and now, she was back to square one. She felt tears streaming down her face, but made no attempt to stop them. Why do I even bother. At this rate, I won't be able to play until next season, and even that's a stretch.
Troy had seen the tears making their way down her face and quickly cupped her face with his hands as he wiped the tears away. I wish I could do something more to help. I feel totally useless. You're her boyfriend. Being with her right now is the best thing you can do for her. He sighed. That last voice was right. This was about Bella.
He tilted her head up, which forced her to look him in the eyes. He could see how much this was hurting her on the inside. He pressed his forehead against hers, and closed his eyes.
"Bells, I'm not gonna tell you that I know how this feels, because I don't. But what I do know, is that you're strong. You're one of the strongest people I've ever met, and if anyone can bounce back from this, it's you."
"But Troy, what's the point? I won't make it back this season, and I'll probably miss next season as well. I already let the team down-"
Troy pulled his forehead away from hers so he could look her in the eye.
"You haven't let anyone down. Do you honestly think that anyone blames you for this? Bella, none of this is your fault. And you shouldn't be doing this for the team. You should be doing this for yourself. Find a way to motivate yourself. And if you ever feel like giving up, I'll be right here, making sure that you don't."
She gave him a watery smile. As he took his hands off her face.
"How did I get so lucky?"
Troy smirked. "No clue. I mean, I am pretty fantastic."
She giggled and lightly swatted at his arm.
"Oh come here you," she said as she snaked her arm around the back of his head and tugged him close so she could kiss him. As their lips met, she sighed in pure bliss. I really am lucky, she thought, as she smiled into the kiss. For a small moment, Troy had made everything go away. He'd made her forget about the fact the she was, once again, bedridden. He's amazing. After continuing their "activities" for a few more minutes, they finally pulled away, both a little breathless and grinning like idiots.
Troy got up because he'd remembered that everyone else was in the hall, waiting for her to wake up. He smiled sheepishly as he'd pecked her on the lips one last time before retreating to the door to get everyone else. Bella's eyes followed him out the door, not being able to keep her mind off of him at the moment. He was so handsome, and brave, and kind, and she couldn't imagine her life without him. As she continued to ponder over her thoughts, the weight and realization of what she'd just thought hit her like a ton of bricks.
I'm in love with Troy.
