It had been 3 weeks since the accident, and Bella was doing great. She knew it was ridiculously cheesy, but she couldn't have gotten this far without the support of her friends and family. The one person that had been by her side the most, however, was the real reason she had gotten this far. She thought back to that day that she had finally snapped.
_______________________________It had been the beginning of the second week of her recovery, and Bella was annoyed. She had already done this therapy before, and somehow, it felt harder the second time. She knew how to do the exercises, that wasn't the problem. The problem was that she couldn't make her limbs complete them. It was as if she'd forgotten how to tell her arm how to move. The nurse had seen her getting frustrated, and decided to give her and Troy some space. As soon as the door closed, Bella had smacked the tray that was in front of her to the ground with her good hand.
"Damn it!"
Troy looked completely shocked. "Woah, Bella, calm down."
"No! No I will not calm down. My left arm is completely useless right now, and I don't know what to do!"
"Look, Bells, I know your upset-"
"Wow Troy, great job. You've made the understatement of the year! Why don't I give you a giant gold metal to go with all of your other MVP awards! That would add to your collection of useless metal!"
Troy looked at her, his brown eyes full of sadness. He knew she didn't mean any of it. This was just her taking out all of her anger on the closest person. Unfortunately, at the moment, the closest person was him.
"I know you don't mean any of that, but you do need a little time by yourself, so I'll give you some space," he said.
Bella looked at him and sighed as he walked towards the door. Of course, he was right. She needed to think, and she couldn't do that with people fawning over her all the time. It was amazing how well he knew her. He knew what she needed, long before she herself knew. The one thing that bothered her, was that Troy was the one who saw her break down. He saw her lose it and give up on herself. She hated looking weak in front of people, and now, she made herself look weak in front of one of the most important people in her life. She had to make this right.
"Troy, wait."
He turned around, with a knowing smile.
"Bella, you don't have to be strong all the time. Not being afraid to show weakness shows more courage than bottling up all of your emotions."
She sat there in shock as he walked to the side of her bed. How does he do that? Always know what I'm thinking? He grabbed her hand.
"Bella. Don't ever be scared to let me know how you're feeling. I'm supposed to help you, but I can't do that if you don't let me, okay?"
She smiled back at him and gave his hand a squeeze.
"Yeah. Okay."
_______________________________She was brought out of her thoughts as the nurse came through the door.
"Bella, you have a visitor."
She smiled and motioned to the nurse to let them in. It was probably Troy. She looked over at the clock on the bedside and frowned. It's only 3:15. Troy gets here everyday at 3:30 like clockwork. No exceptions. So if it's not Troy, then who is it, she thought. The nurse walked out and in came the visitor, and as they did, Bella felt her blood run cold.
Charlie.
He walked in, looking smug, like he'd gotten an award for ending world hunger or something.
