The kind office lady recognized me right away. I guess this school doesn't get that many new kids. She was a short plump woman with a warmth to her eyes that made me feel welcome right away. Ms. Linda, I learned her name was, gave me my locker, home room and schedule for the day in addition to a map.

So here I am at my locker, that happens to be conveniently down the hall from my first period. So far I have drawn the attention of everyone I have passed by in the halls. What makes it worst is that they don't even try to make their stares subtle. One person in a group will notice me, whisper and BAM, I have four sets of eyes staring at me. But none the less I keep my eyes ahead and smile warmly at those who I make eye contact with.

What is this lock made out of?! Captain America's shield?! Lord! I finally crack, preparing myself to carry this heavy bag all day.

But i shall not fail today! I'm ready to crack the puzzle that is this lock. I can feel my face scrunch up and I stick my tongue out in concentration. Thank god I'm facing away from everyone in the hallway.

Wouldn't want to scare away my new classmates.

I feel a presence behind me but before I can turn around an amused voice asks "Need some help?"

My movements freeze.

Is he talking to me? Well might as well check it out, if not then I can play it off like I'm just checking my surroundings.

When I turn around I'm faced with a large male and I mean he was buff. Not body builder type but you knew if you tried him, he would win. You couldn't exactly see through his shirt he had muscles but there was something that gave off the dominance of an intimidating dude. He seems like a friendly dude a girl would have as a friend, the goofy one who likes to joke around. He looks to be my age, taller then me, maybe a little shorter than my dad, brown hair that's cut close on the sides of his head but not a buzz and then a wisked top, like a quiff. His eyes were a friendly brown but seemed to have another side to them. I felt like I could trust him though, like I already know him in a way.

You just met him! What's your problem?

"Um, yes please." I reply after taking in his features " I don't know how to work the lock." I try to explain my problem but realize how stupid I sound.

"I mean! I know how to work a lock! I have the combination and everything it's just when I do it it doesn't work." I rush out trying desperately not to scare him off.

'Don't leave, I need a friend.' Whispers that lame voice in the back of my head.

"Oh, no problem!" he reassures me "My name is Lucas by the way." He says not taking his eyes off the lock in his hands and politely gestures for me to give him the combination, to which I oblige. "Yeah I had trouble with my first lock too, they are kind of tricky but you just twist it three time this way to 35, " he explains as he twists it clockwise. "once this way to 13, " counterclockwise "and twice to 29 this way. " clockwise.

"Cool! Thanks for that, I thought I was going to have to carry all my stuff today and who wants that." I say making a gross face for emphasis.

I get a laugh in return which makes me smile. Yay I'm funny!

"Who wants what?" a more feminine voice calls as she approached us.

I turn around and find the owner of the voice, a girl in ripped jeans, a tank top and a pair of flip flops is approaching us with a quizzical expression on her face. She has pale green eyes and dirty blonde hair that reaches her upper shoulder, she's petite but once again seems to radiate something bigger.

You can't miss the way mystery dude only focuses on her when she walked up, both wearing the same love-filled smiles. It's like the way dad looks at mom and vise versa.

"Babe, this is the new girl everyone's been talking about." he explains my presence to her.

"Hi, my names Amelia." comes my timid reply with a small wave of my hand.

"This is Amber, my m- girlfriend." he quickly covers his mistake with a cough avoiding my eyes.

It's not that big of a deal dude everyone has a slip of the tongue sometimes. The girl, who's name I now know is Amber, seems unfazed by this so I let it go.

"It's nice to meet you! We have heard so much about your family." she says cheerfully, enveloping me in a giant hug.

I have a feeling she does this often, but I don't mind because she seems like a good person and these two make me feel comfortable.

When we pull away I give them a weird look. They heard about my family?

"Oh that sounded weird! I mean your parents were really popular before they left. Even after they left actually. But not in a bad way they still hold a big reputation! I mean obviously they do otherwise I wouldn't have known about the-." She rushes to explain as if she's afraid I will bit her head off because of the way it came out.

My and Lucas' laugh cut her rambling off. "It's fine I knew what you meant. No biggy." I reassure her with my huge joker smile.

It's as if a weight was lifted off her shoulders but a hint of blush starts to form on her cheeks as a result of her embarrassment. Lucas pulls her under his arm for comfort, his smile not faltering.

"So what do you have for first period?" Amber asks as she leans into Lucas' side.

I have to look at my schedule for that information. "That would be chemistry."

"Oh cool we all have first period together!" she squeals, seeming genuinely excited.

By this point a smile has permanently positioned itself on my face. These two seem like a fun bunch.
