Aurora's POV
Several moons passed before Luella finially gave me her consent on going. That was, of course, after a three hour lecture on how I had to be safe and what not. It was another three hours of her drilling spells into me, because according to her, archery isn't going to get me out alive and, of course a few days of monotous begging. I think it was because of my constent pleading that she gave in to.
To be honest, I didn't knew what the big deal is, I was just visiting Draven. I saw no harm in that and I was also saving Mother.Resucing her from her illness was crucial to me, I knew she wanted me to see the pride in her eyes when I get crowned Moon Goddess. She wanted for me what she could not and did not have, a Mother on the second most important day of her life, her Goddess Ceremony. The first was most likely her and Father's Wedding.
I stared out the window at the golden leaves that cover the glossy green field that I once ran on, I thought about Conrad for the first time in a few weeks. Mother said once, a long time ago, that when mates meet each other, they feel agony when they part. I felt no agony. There was not a single cell on my body that yearned for him or his exsitence. Now that I thought about it, I didn't miss him either. A troubled feeling settled upon me.
Was Conrad and I truely mates?"Aurora! Were you even listening?" Snapped Selena in a very annoied tone.
I averted my gaze to her. She looked exhausted, well, who wouldn't be if they only got two hours of sleep every night?
Selena sighed, obviously giving up on me. She flung her arms across the desk, her eyelids slowly drooped down. "You do know that you are leaving tonight, right?"
"Yes." I looked back to the leaves, wondering what color would look good with gold. I wanted to make another flower crown, with golden leaves. I didn't have one in that color in my collection yet. It was probably because real Autumn leaves are so fragile.
For the rest of the day, I listened to Selena reciting formulas back to me. My head felt as if it was ready to burst any moment now, if she continued.
The hands on the clock couldn't turn fast enough and when it finally was about struck midnight, I was walking down the grand stair an invisibility cloak in my arms. I was just about to step out of the castle when someone called for me. It was Mother.
Her right hand gripped the copper banister tightly, she was breathing hard. Her left hand clasp something to her chest. "Aurora darling, come."
I shivered at the umfamiliar way the word 'darling' rolled off her tongue. It didn't felt right. It was always Aurora this Aurora that, never has it been Aurora darling. Suddenly I was hitted with a sick thought. Was she going to ask me to stay?
I retaced my steps up the stairs and stood in front of Mother. Waiting for her to dictate.
She took my hand, unclutched it and slipped something cold in my palm. "This was once your Grandma's, it will protect you from Draven if he decides to harm you."
"I-"
She held her index finger to my lips. "Let me speak Aurora," guilt and tears misted her eyes. "I was a terrible Mother, I should have done a much better job rising you guys. Yet I became too absorbed in my role, I forgot my two pups who needed me desperatly. Needed me there as a loving Mother. I shouldn't have probbed after Selena so much, she deserved the freedom to explore. I should have let her chase her dreams."
"Everyone makes mistakes Mother, we all do, the important thing is to learn from them. Isn't that what you taught us?" The sentence ended at a high octive making it sound like a question but it wasn't.
Mother nodded. "I just-"
"Say no more, I forgive you, Mother." Said Selena's voice, coming from the shallow and into the dim moonlight we stood on.
Mother chocked out the cry she held in at Selena's words. She engulfed Selena in a stiff hug. Selena's body turned rigid almost immediatly but relaxed as she realised how much of an unexperienced hugger Mother was. Selena rubbed circles on her back before pulling away.
It was then that I realised Selena was wearing leather. She did, most of the times but it wasn't intense like this. Selena went full out, and it was tight leather, I wondered how she wasn't sufficating to death in her attire. I glanced up at her, was there a he-wolf she wanted to impress?
Noticing my probbing stare, she quickly coughed into her fist and changed the topic. "Aurora, this is your's. Cressida's bow and sheath of arrows." Selena knelt down and held it up with the palms of her hand.
"Thank you, comrade." I smiled, taking the bow and arrows. I ran my fingers over the shiny black skin of the bow, the arrows were had phoenix feathers dangling off each one.
"There is only twelve, use them wisly, sister," Selena warned pointing at my sheath of arrows. "You have three months until we send people off looking for you."
We shook hands in aggreement. We strided outside together, Mother leaned against Selena's shoulder for support. Luella was already there, waiting for us.
Saying good-bye to them would just make my departure harder. I took a deep breath and gazed at Mother as confirmation for her permission.
"Its your life Aurora, you choose what you want to do and who you want to be. I can't stop you anymore. Go on, prove to us that Draven is innocent."
I bitted back my tears and gave her the most genuine smile I could master before I unfurled my wings and sored into the night sky.
Tears stremed down my face as the name of Mother's disease repeated itself over and over in my head, the one that Selena told me the name of two nights ago.
The White Lillies' Curse.
