"Jessa, how many times do I have to tell you to clean this room" my mother said standing in the door to my room.
Or actually, not my room but the guest room. My room was getting refurnished because Isaiah's father, Jeff, wanted to be on my good side. He knew I didn't like him very much and was willing to do anything to change that.
"It's not like my room is going to be done anytime soon." I said. I was sitting on my bed, writing in my journal.
"It will be done within the next month, Jessa. In the meantime, you really need to work on keeping this room tidy."
I groaned. "Whatever, when's dinner?"
"Soon." She said, before stepping out into the hall and closing my door, leaving it a crack open.
I groaned again. Why did parents insist on doing that? My door was completely shut before she barged in and I wanted it completely shut when she left.
I stood up and walked over and closed it, accidentally slamming it.
When I got back to my bed and sat down, my phone started to vibrate beside me. I picked it up. It was Halley.
"Hello?" I said, answering it.
"Hey Jessa!" She squealed on the other end. She was one of those bubbly, nice but stupid blondes and at times it was annoying.
"Ow, Halley. You're gonna break my eardrum." I said.
"Sorry. But guess what?"
I sighed. "You know I hate guessing games. Just spill it."
"Okaaaay. Jasmin is having a party tonight. We should go!"
"Do you even have any alcohol."
"Yeah. I got some rum this time, though. And some orange juice to chase it down." She said.
"How did you repay your boot?" I asked.
"He's taking me out on a date." She said.
"Right." I said sarcastically. "Stay safe, kids."
"Oh, shut up." She giggled, "So are we going?"
I glanced at the pile of homework on my desk that just kept growing. "I don't know. I have a lot of--"
"Homework?" She interrupted me.
"Yeah." I said.
"Come on, Jessa. Just one night. I promise I'll leave you alone after that."
"Will you though?" I asked not believing her.
"Well, only for abut two weeks. But still." She admitted.
I snorted. "I guess I can go. Besides who's gonna get your drunk ass home safely?"
"Seriously, you need to have some drinks for once."
I never had a drop of liquor. Ever. I hated not being in control and seeing how other people acted made me certain that I didn't want to be under the influence. "No, Halley. You know I don't drink. Besides, who would drive you home?"
"Your hot brother." I could practically hear her smirking on the other end.
"Step-brother." I corrected her, "and he's probably going to be there which means he will be in no condition to drive anywhere."
She groaned. "Fine, just relax a little when we're there. I want to have a bit of fun."
"Whatever." I said.
"Anyways, I gotta go. I need to make up an excuse to tell my mom."
"Just tell her you're at my place." I said.
"Okay. You are so lucky to just be able to go to parties."
"Yeah, super lucky." I said sarcastically.
"Well I gotta go. See you soon."
"Bye." I said and hung up. Then I continued to write in my journal.
