After work, Isaiah picked me up in the Benz and drove me home.
"How was work, babe?" He asked me, his dominant hand on top of the steering wheel, and his eyes looking straight ahead at the road.
I rested my hands in my lap and cleared my throat. "It was alright. Halley came to visit me." There was something I wanted to ask him. Something that was bothering me.
"Did she?" He smirked. "Does she still have that crush on me?"
I didn't answer his question. Instead, I blurted out, "Isaiah?"
He glanced at me. "Yeah?" He sounded absolutely confused.
"Have you ever hooked up with Halley?"
Isaiah nearly choked on his own spit and then he let out a nervous chuckle. "Who told you that we did?"
"Halley." I said, and looked straight ahead at the road.
"Of course she did." He mumbled, clearly annoyed now.
"So you did." I stated.
He shook his head. "No, it was not a full on hookup. We only had a measly kiss."
My stomach dropped. "Oh." was all I could say.
I knew that Isaiah hooked up with many girls, but the fact that he hooked up with my best friend kind of hurt. Halley had a reputation of being a "freak in bed", which probably also meant that she was a good kisser.
Isaiah sensed my discomfort and moved his left hand over and gripped my knee. "Hey, it's okay." he murmured. "I didn't fuck her or anything like that."
Suddenly something popped into my head. "Wait a sec. Didn't you tell me that you always go all the way with every girl you hook up with?"
"I do." He said, and he gripped the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white.
"Why not Halley?" I asked.
"She was using me." He whispered.
"How?"
"To get back at her boyfriend at the time."
I wasn't surprised. Typical Halley. She was better off single.
"But what do you care? You'd still be getting sex out of it."
He shook his head. "Jessa, I didn't want to be the reason for a break up. I mean, sure, I use girls, or used," he made sure to add before going on, "but I don't want to ruin someone's relationship. Cheating is not cool. If I ever got cheated on, there would be no second chance. That's it."
"Well, good. Because I don't approve of cheating either." I gave him a pointed look
"Glad we're on the same page." He winked at me.
