I woke back up minutes later, or so I thought. "She's awake.. She's awake" I heard whispers next to me, I slowly turned my head with my neck still burning and eyes still blurry. "M...mom?" I said as she jumped up with tears in her eyes "hi hunny" she said as she rubbed my hand. "I'm sorry.. I must've fell asleep for a few hours" her face went white "Amelia, you haven't been awake for three weeks" I sat there in a lost for words. "Three weeks.. How..?" My mom sat in the bed next to me "when the knife slit your throat, it cut arteries.. Arteries the doctor thought he fixed, but he didn't.. your blood count dropped dramatically and you went unconscious for three weeks" I began crying again, "did they find him" I said in the most hopeful way, trying to be as strong as I could. "No Amelia, they're going to need your help.. No one saw you leave the party or anyone do anything" the anger began to come over me "you're telling me I was at a party and not one damn person saw anything? Bullshit! It's all bullshit!" I began yelling as clenching my fist. The doctor walked in "is everything okay?" I was embarrassed for acting the way I did "y..yes. I'm sorry, I just feel angry and sad and hurt and I just needed to let it out" the doctor came in "you can only go up from here Amelia, rebuild yourself and who you are, therapy is recommended and we recommend you staying with your boyfriend and he agreed, this is going to be a hard journey." I began crying "doctor... Do you ever see any rape victims not recover?" He sat down on the bed and grabbed my hand "Amelia, some see no reason for living anymore, but you were given a second chance, go and get justice for yourself." I felt a sense of peace when I decided I'm going to be a fighter, not a victim.
