Chapter 7
When they reached the house Jace pulled out a couple of seraph blades and named them. The others got theirs ready also. Jace reached for the door handle, he nodded at the others who nodded back. Jace opened the door.
Sebastian was seated at a chair in a dark room. He was sharpening his blades, slowly, admiring their beauty. A guard rushed in and said.
"Sir we have company. Shadowhunters looks like a few of them, a vampire and two werewolves. They've broken in sir." Sebastian turned and smiled.
"Let them come." he said. Sebastian grabbed a couple of blades and secured them in his belt. He grabbed a stele, and walked off to Clary's cell.
Within a couple of minutes Clary awoke yet again from her sleep, feeling a burning pain on her arm. She looked to see Sebastian drawing a rune. She tried to pull free of his grasp, but he was too strong for her. He stood up and stared down at her for a moment. She tried to ask him what he'd done but couldn’t find her voice. The rune of silence, she realized.
"We have some visitors." Sebastian said. "Wouldn’t want you telling them were I'm at." He then cuffed her hands also. Sebastian nodded towards the guards in the darkness, telling them to get ready. He stepped into the dark where she couldn’t see him. Just then she heard footsteps, walking towards her cell. She panicked and backed up against the wall trying to hide. But she stopped suddenly realizing who it was. Jace.
Jace crept slowly down the stairs, blades out beside him. The others followed in his wake. He saw up against the wall a figure with red hair. Clary. Jace began running. When he reached her, he immediately kissed her. She was safe, she was alive. He pulled away and said, "Clary are you alright?"
Clary just shook her head at him saying no. Tears welled up in her eyes and he quickly brushed them away, trying to comfort her.
"Clary what's wrong? What's wrong?" Jace asked. She began to struggle trying to show him something.
"What?" he asked again. She then tilted her head towards her arm, he saw it. The rune of silence.
He touched it. The rune was still warm, new. Everything clicked suddenly into place. He began undoing the cuffs on Clary's hands and feet. He put his arm protectively around her waist.
"Guys," he started turning towards the others. "He’s in here. Sebastian."
Just then a figure in black dropped in front of them. Everyone backed up steadying their weapons. Figures from the dark descended around them. Jace handed Clary a blade and whispered the name of it to her. A light chuckle came from the figure as it stepped forward.
"It's funny how easy it is to bring us all together." said Sebastian. "Jace, I knew you'd come."
"And we can leave just as quickly as we came." said Jace.
"Or you could stay awhile. I'm going to give you one last chance Jace." he said. "Which side would you rather be on the winning or the losing?"
"The winning." said Jace. "And that will be ours."
"Have it your way. Guess I'll just have to kill you first." Sebastian said. He grinned at Jace. Both boys ran at each other swinging their blades.
Complete chaos. That was all that surrounded Clary. All around her shadowhunters and her friends were fighting. Some attacked her and she fought. But her main focus was on Jace and Sebastian. In the middle of the room they were fighting sword to sword, neck at neck; each deflecting each other’s blows. Finally, Jace managed to get Sebastian on the ground, Jace was on top of him. Just as Jace was about to raise his sword, Sebastian flipped over, pinning Jace to the floor. He brought the sword up but Clary had flung herself at him, knocking Sebastian to the ground. Clary got up instantly and raised her blade, so did Jace. He moved to her side as Sebastian got up.
"2 on 1." said Jace. "I like it."
"We could shorten it to 1 on 1." said Sebastian eyeing Clary.
"No!" Jace yelled as he sprung forward. They were at it again.
At one point Jace got winded and backed up. Sebastian walked over to Jace, ready to attack. Clary flung a dagger his way, but he just deflected it. She quickly drew another and threw it his way. The dagger hit his shoulder, and Sebastian pulled it out huffing in rage. He was about to throw his own dagger towards her when Jace hurtled over knocking her to the ground, him on top of her. A bright light suddenly came from across the room. Clary felt herself being pulled by a strong force. Then there was nothing.
Clary landed on grass. She could feel its comfort beneath her fingertips. She sat up and winced in pain. What had just happened? Sitting up next to her was Jace. He turned his head slightly and as soon as he saw her, pulled her into his arms. They kissed for what felt like hours, but were probably only minutes. He pulled away before he could burn her.
"Clary-" he started but was cut off by his girlfriend hugging him tightly. She threw her arms around him and her head in his neck, as she began to cry.
"It's ok. You’re safe. I'm here, and we’re together. It's ok." Jace said. He hugged her back not wanting to let go, wanting to put everything behind them. All their problems and worries, just to stay in this moment forever. His thoughts were interrupted by a voice from behind them.
"Good thing my magnificent self was there to save you all." Magnus said. Clary lifted her head up slightly and said, "Thank you." her voice muffled in Jace's jacket. Magnus nodded and walked of the the others who were still recovering from the escape.
"Jace." Clary said, not looking up at him. "I love you. I missed you so much." Jace laughed lightly.
"Me too." he started. Jace hugged her tighter burying his face in her flaming red hair. "I love you Clary."
