Chapter 5

The house by itself was scary but the inside was like some horror story. As she walked through the door and down the halls, Clary noticed all the guards and people throughout the house. Were they his servants? The house was dark with very little light. Sebastian led her through dark hallways and corridors. Finally, they reached a set of stairs that led into darkness. They walked down the stairs and as they did Sebastian pulled a torch down from the wall. He then opened a gate and pushed Clary in. She landed on her hands scraping them and her knees. The floor was concrete, the walls were also. Sebastian knelt down beside her and began putting her feet in the cuffs attached to the wall.

He then whispered to her, “Like the room?” Sebastian asked. He then laughed lightly. “I picked it out just for you.” A smile crept on his face. “I’ll be back tomorrow.” He then kissed her forehead lightly and left the room.

All Clary could do was cry. She sat there and cried thinking about Jace. “He’ll come.” She said to herself. “He’ll come for me.” And she fell asleep, thinking of Jace.

Jace was in his room packing up to go to Magnus’s house. He grabbed his clothes, his gear, weapons, and… the dagger, the Herondale dagger. He scrambled around his room looking for it. Then he saw it, pinned to the wall, holding a photo. As Jace moved closer he realized what the picture was. It almost brought him to tears. The picture was of him and Clary. He was sitting on the Institute steps with a book in his lap. Clary was sitting on the step above her; her hand was on his shoulder. His hand was covering hers, and they both had smiles on their faces. Jace put this photo and dagger in his bag, leaving behind his home, probably never to return.

Jace, Isabelle, Alec, Simon walked through the streets of New York. When they reached Magnus’s house Alec stepped forward and knocked on the door. Then they heard a voice through the speaker system.

“Who dares to disturb the High Warlock of Brooklyn?”

“Magnus it’s us.” said Alec.

“Oh.” he sighed, “Come in if you must.”

They all walked up to the apartment, and when they reached Magnus’s door. He was holding Chairman Meow in his arms.

“I’m still debating on whether I should help you or not.” he said.

“It involves breaking the law.” said Jace.

“I’m in.” said Magnus’s brightly.

Everyone took a seat in the living room and all looked at Jace. They looked at him with confident eyes. They were looking towards him for an answer, he was their leader. The look was one he saw Clary give him all the time. One he would always return to her. Jace pulled out the Morgenstern ring on its chain. The one he gave to Clary up on the rooftop.

“I think we should try tracking her first. Magnus, can you see if this will work?”

“Sure.” Magnus said, he then walked out of the room.

“Second,” Jace started. “I think we should try and see where they could be. What are the possibilities?”

“What about that apartment or house you stayed in with him Jace?” said Isabelle.

“No,” said Jace. “Clary destroyed that apartments blew it to pieces.”

“How about one of Valentine’s places?” said Alec.

“But I don’t know where or what they are. He never showed me any of them. I didn’t even know they existed.”

“Could he be in Alicante, Idris?” said Simon.

“No.” said Jace. “Sebastian’s a lot of things, but he isn’t stupid. I don’t think he’d go there.”

“But that’s just it.” Simon pressed. “Like you said Sebastian isn’t stupid wouldn’t he go someplace no one expected him to be, where no one would look?”

“That’s not bad bloodsucker.” said Jace. Izzy scowled at him. “As soon as we see if the tracking works or not, we’ll go to Idris.”

“We’ll have to be careful.” said Alec. “Once mom sees we’ve left she’ll probably have a search party there also.”

“Not if we get there first.” Jordan said smirking. Jace would have smiled at the comment but he was to worried. He couldn’t even list all the things Sebastian was probably doing to Clary. But for her sake and his all he could do was wait for Magnus’s. Tracking her was probably not going to work, but it was the best option they had.

Felling sick and exhausted, Jace gave a mumbled excuse to the others, and went to one of the spare bedrooms. After hours, of waiting Jace couldn’t take it anymore. He stormed into Magnus’s room shutting the door behind him.

“Have you found her yet?” Jace asked, his voice trembling with sadness and rage.

Magnus turned around slowly, and looked at Jace, his eyes glinting.

“No, I haven’t. These things take time. It could be hours, week’s maybe-”

“No!” Jace yelled cutting him off. “We don’t have hours or weeks. I don’t have hours or weeks. She doesn’t have hours or weeks. Sebastian may be torturing her. She might even be dead. Track her. And if it doesn’t work do it again. Do it again and again until you find her. I don’t care if you have to do it a thousand times. I want her alive, and I want her here.”
