Scandals

It was near the end of February. Cold, bitter, but unfortunately not snowy. It was the West coast for goodness sakes, no snow here.

Me and Vic's baby was due on or around March 2. And it's a girl! Our families were pretty excited. My parents are thrilled to be grandparents. Mike, Tony and Jaime couldn't wait to be uncles of our new little girl coming very soon. I have moved in with Vic a few months ago, and we already have set up a nursery for our baby in his house. It was pink and purple and it was beautiful. With the help of Papa Fuentes, the walls were painted light pink with fluffy white clouds with angels resting on them and little yellow stars.

My studies have been so far so good, even though I had a big transmission from my apartment to Vic's house.

Now it was 4 days before the baby arrived, and we were celebrating at our house. It was me, Vic, Mike, Tony, Jaime and Kelsey wanted to come too, so I invited her to come celebrate. Janis had an internship with a counseling program that pays well, so she was gone for the evening.

We were playing games and music, and we didn't drink any alcohol, due to me being pregnant. Nothing too big, just a nice little celebration of the baby coming pretty soon.

Mike did a little poke on my stomach.

"There's my niece! Come on out!"

I laugh at him. "Sooner or later!"

Kelsey was busy texting, and she looked up and said, "Hey Victor. Feeling good tonight, huh?"

Vic flaps his brown hair as he rubs my big pokey stomach. "The best I've ever felt! I'm so excited!"

"Well then, you won't be so excited when you see this."

She got up from her seat and came to us. She showed us a fetus picture.

"It's from Layla. Looks like the cat's out of the bag now. I'll leave you all to figure that out."

Jaime drinks his juice. "You don't mean he..."

"Oh, yes. Say hello to a cheater, Mystic. He's got a new 'little miracle' coming."

Kelsey put the phone in her pocket and trots away smiling like a witch.

I frown. I turn to Vic, and he yells, "I didn't do a damn thing with her, and you know that too, Kelsey!"

"Sure you didn't!" She called back before she slams the door shut.

I tried to keep from crying. "Vic, you slept with another woman!?"

"I seriously didn't do it, I swear!! You are the only one I sleep with!"

"You think your slick? I knew you were with groupies before I met you, but this is ridiculous!!"

"Please, believe me!" Vic pleaded. "I never slept with her."

I got up and went to the door. "Don't talk to me again, Victor! We're done! We're over! Mystic Leoine Ross is no longer your girl!"

I slam the door shut. It shook the expensive vase we received as a Baby Shower gift and it falls to the ground, breaking it to pieces.

There was eeriness in the living room.

"I gotta go too," Jaime said. "Come on Tony."

Mike was looking cross, but was only trying to hide his feelings of being ashamed, hurt and angry towards this situation.

"I'm going too." That's all he said before he closed the door, leaving a distraught Victor on his own.

He goes into the nursery, and touches the frilly white lace that draped the crib. Was this really over?

He was so mad, he was tempted to take his guitar and smash up the nursery. So he went to his basement, grabbed his biggest guitar, and ran into the nursery with his mind in a huge fussy state.

But he didn't tear up the room. His fists loosened, he drops the guitar and he falls to his knees. He started crying. Loud. And tears like a flood rush down on his red hot cheeks. He didn't want to destroy the hard work. He cries and cries until he lays out on the purple carpet and starts to sing our special song: Yeah Boy and Doll Face to himself until he falls asleep.
