"Wake up, we are going out," Joe's voice filled my ears, followed by the shrieking sound of my window opening.

"It's cold Joey" I held out his name, hidden under the covers as an attempt to escape from the sharp breeze that filled my tiny room.

"No seriously, get ready we are going to Danny's," I groaned, wanting to stay in bed for the one day I'm allowed off.

They finally let me after begging them for a whole hour. They soon realised I wasn't going to stop and just gave in.

"We are going to the diner first, I'll pay for you," He caught my attention, I haven't had pancakes since the beginning of the year.

"And a milkshake?" I popped my head through to find out his answer.

"And a milkshake," He repeated, making me slowly stretch out of bed and walk towards him, holding us in a tight hug.

"Hi," I laughed, pecking him on the cheek and walking to the bathroom. As I looked in the mirror I was pleased that my hair shaped my face, avoiding any effort to style it. Brushing my teeth I lightly washed my face and dried my skin with a towel. Then applying, a soft touch of powder, a few layers of mascara on both top and bottom lashes and a light dab of my plum colored lip stainer.

"You have so many clothes," Joe spoke in shock as I walked into the bedroom to change.

"Thrift stores Joe, most of all those items were under ten dollars," I explained, causing him to finally understand the reason for my unnecessary amount of clothing. Walking to my dresser I grabbed my tight black turtleneck, blue high waisted skinny jeans and a baby pink windbreaker.

"Come on go," I ushered Joe out of the room to get changed. Lastly grabbing my boots and bag and leaving through the door.

"Let's go," He yelled, running down the stairs and out the door. Giving me little time to write a note just in case I won't make it home back in time.

Joe ran with his hands inside his pockets, feeling how absolutely freezing it was outside. He held his shoulders up to his ears as he made his way over to the car, lightly bouncing to retain body heat.

I shrieked before I got in, causing Joe to laugh. He hurried into the cramped space as I stood there in the cold with my head slightly aback, feeling the crisp air.

"What are you doing?" He asked, completely confused. I laughed in response, I was acting loopy and had my head in the clouds.

"Pancakes Joe, I'm craving," I whined, turning on the ignition and settling on a decent song.

"Okay then go, I'm hungry too,"

"Alright, alright," I parked out of the driveway, and felt the car jump as it fell from the curb, causing me to stop driving and fall into fits of laughter.

"What is wrong with you?" He tried to  keep a straight face but failed and smiled wide, not understanding what was so funny.

"Nothing," Smiling, I proceeded to drive to the familiar streets that followed onto our destination. Singing poppy songs we recognised on the radio until we finally reached the packed diner.

"Cold, cold, cold," I screamed as the wind hit us both from outside the car. Joe opened the door for me and followed me into the warm area inside, finding an empty booth amongst the social adults around us.

We sat on either side, having the Sandy give us two menus and greeting us with warm hello and welcome.

"I haven't seen you both in so long," Sandy used to go to our school before she graduated and started working here. We came for food and arcade games quite a lot, previous to when the 'New Kids' started getting serious.
