You wandered through the Ewok party, past Leia and Han's laughter, R2's squeals and C-3PO's indignation. You smiled at them, making light conversation, but your mind was elsewhere. Where was Luke? Was he okay? Why wasn't he celebrating with the others?

You'd grown used to Luke's antics, hiding himself away to process his thoughts alone. But why was he hiding now? Nausea began to fill your stomach. Worry caught your lip between your teeth as you searched. Where was he where was he where was—

There. A little ways away from the celebrations lay a smouldering bonfire, ash and smoke streaking through the air. Luke was alone, his back turned.

You sighed his name in relief, calling softly, "Luke, there you are! I was so worried about you."

But your heart broke when he turned to face you, taking in his distraught features.

Tears were streaming down his cheeks as he watched the remains of his father turn to ashes. He quickly wiped his cheeks free from the tears, your name a sob choking from his lips. And when Luke broke down, you held him close against your chest. Your arms tight around him as he collapsed, body wracked with sobs. You held him as he cried, tears of your own threatening to fall. No one had ever seen him quite like this.

"I'm here. I'm here for you. I'm here if you want to talk about it." It was all you could say, all you could think to say. You gently pulled back from the embrace, wiping the remaining tears from his cheeks with your fingertips.

He nodded. "I, uh... I know. But he died a good man, and that's something, right? He admitted he was wrong, and died as a Jedi, as my father."

"That's beautiful, Luke."

Luke returned the embrace, wrapping his arms around your waist. "It is. Thank you for being here, I... I don't really know what I would do without you."

Your kiss to his cheek was soft, avoiding the smears of ash. It was the only comfort you could give, but it was enough. His lips met yours, tasting of salt and blood, but you couldn't bring yourself to care.

Luke would be okay, he had to be okay. You would give him the comfort he needed.
