My Heart

Can you hear the night calling?

Can you hear that sound?

It's the sound of my beating heart slowing down

I've always been so gullible

That was my first mistake

I took this love for granted

Which was another red flag up

Though the worst part

The worst mistake

The worst choice I could make

Was ever letting you through my walls

I gave you the knife sharpened

I pointed out in my heart

All the places you could kill me with

Though that was just the start

I shared all my desires and dreams

All my flaws and all my schemes

Trusting you to not cut me deep

Though you went deeper than I thought

You went through every single one

How could you?

Oh that's right, I forgot I'm gullible

Believing every lie that you've told

So in the night I sit

Thinking all this through

Can you hear the night calling you?

Can you hear that sound too?

It's the sound of my beating heart slowing down

Because of you

Though that was before

A long time ago

I've learned something new

I've came to a conclusion

A good one too

I cannot change what has been done

I'm glad it happened though

You were not a mistake

You were a lesson that I learned from

I learned that being upset because your gone

Won't do me any good

So I must move on

I'm doing pretty well

Placing my broken heart back together

Without your guidance this time around

Even if I'm not close to done

I'm still working it on my own

I'm getting better as the days go on

Then one day I'll sit in the dark and crack a smile

Can you hear the night calling?

Can you hear that sound too?

It my heart beating perfectly

Without you
