Chapter 8
Carter’s POV
So, here I am, standing in front of Nick’s billion dollar mansion waiting for him to make an appearance, but as the ‘king’ has to take his time getting dressed, I end up sitting in his living lounge. I know we’re not that late but still, getting before time is kind of like my thing.
Just when I hear Nick’s bedroom door close, I get up to greet the douche who has been making me wait for the past fifteen minutes.
‘What up, dawg?’ he chirps as he descends down the steps.
‘You know you’re a douche for making me wait here right?’ I gave voice to my thoughts.
‘Well, who stopped you from coming in to my room? You could’ve dressed up with me. And by the looks of it, you really need to.’
‘Whatever, I’m good. Now can we leave?’
‘Without breakfast? No thank you.’
Giving in to his demand we walked to his stylish kitchen with black granite shelves and all the modern appliances the world has seen. He grabbed and apple and threw it at me. I caught it and uttered a ‘thanks’.
Just as we were about to leave we saw Rob coming in, looking like hell.
‘What happened to you?’ I asked, ‘Having a headache are we?’
‘Hmm, yeah, a hang-over,’ he replied.
‘A hangover? Are you kidding me? Who let you drink?’ I looked at him who raised his hands defensively and shook his head.
‘Gosh, what- Do you wanna die?’ I asked Rob.
‘No?’
‘Then stop being an ass, there are people here who care about you and shouldn’t let them suffer because you can’t control your urge to keep it in your pants or get drunk. People get drunk because they have problem, why are you getting drunk? You’re only fifteen.’ I couldn’t take it anymore and if I stayed there any longer, I would’ve ripped Nick apart for letting his brother do this.
I grabbed my bag and ran out the door. I heard Nick shouting at Rob but just shouting wasn’t going to do anything for the kid.
After a few minutes of breathing in and out, repeatedly, I got up and shouted for Nick to come out. I looked at my watch; we had only five minutes to get to school.
‘Um, I’m sorry dude, for the outburst,’ I told Nick while getting on my bike.
‘It’s okay, I appreciate that you care for him like your own little brother.’ He replied.
‘Yeah, wanna race?’ I asked and I saw Nick’s eyes gleam at my words.
He nodded and I said, ‘But, be careful.’
We both set off and I could feel the wind colliding with my face. The earthy smell just made the moment ever more enjoyable. They way my body vibrated with adrenaline and the rush we both felt in getting past each other and probably winning the race. It seemed like all worries faded. No Iris, no Blake, no saving someone, just me. I knew I was being selfish but a time comes when you can’t take it anymore.
I stopped my train of thought when we reached the school. I locked my bike and put my helmet in the compartment on the right side of the bike. Nick followed me, he can a few seconds later, meaning that I had obviously won.
We headed off to class, but got a detention because a few minutes late. I could really strangle that teacher, but respect comes first and then hatred.
