I had always wondered what kind of house Sirius lived in. I'd imagined a nice manor house with a touch of Slytherin flare. What I mean by that is snakes.... everywhere. I despised snakes, with their disgusting slimy texture. Ew, another reason why I made a horrible Slytherin.
Lily had given me the address she and James were at so our owls would know where to go. I told her I'd send an owl with the address I'd be staying at when I got there. We said our farewells and they departed. Remus waved goodbye and walked alone out of the Platform. Peter was nowhere to be found, probably grovel in a corner somwhere. I voiced this to Sirius, but he gave me a stern look. He hadn't been himself lately....
"How do you plan to get there, to your house?" I asked shoving my hands in my jean pockets.
"Apparate," He stated bluntly. I looked up to see that he was staring straight ahead eerily.
"Mmm hmmm," I continued to look at him. "Well, Let's go. I'm dying to see your house." He nodded and put his hand in mine. With my free hand I grabbed my luggage. Pop! Just in time. We had arrived on a normal looking street. Apparation always made me feel sick so I doubled over and clutched my stomach. When I looked back up a new house had appeared in between the houses I had seen before.
Sirius started climbing up the stairs to the front door. He levitated my luggage up to where he was standing waiting for me. I ran up to join him.
"Before you go in," he was looking at his shoes. "I really hope you like it, but it might be a little dusty."
"Sirius Black," I put my hands on my hips like when I was confronting Lily in our third year. "I didn't know you were this self-conscience." He looked at me oddly before opening the door. Inside the word dusty would have covered the picture frame on one picture. This was much much more than a little dusty. But I wasn't going to complain. Sirius had been nice enough to invite me to his house; I should have been grateful.
"It needs a little work," he smiled sheepishly.
"I'll get on that," I said. When he opened his mouth to protest, I added: "It'll be fun"
That night I unloaded my suitcase into my new room; Sirius's mother's old room. I removed the painting bound on screeching at me and put them on the wall near the stairway instead. Then I gave Sirius the orders to make sure they stayed there..... forever. He took it a bit literally. Then I cleaned the sheets and pillows and went to bed.
Sirius woke me the next morning with a piece of burnt toast and some juice. I gnawed on the toast as we, or mostly I (Sirius nodded and made some comments), talked about how much fun it would be to live here with James and Lily and Remus. After we got it fixed up, i mean.
It took a few weeks to clean out Number 12 Grimmauld Place. Kreacher didn't make it any easier, believe me. Sirius's main job was to keep Kreacher away from me while I threw stuff out. The house elf was very attached to the old junk so he kept Sirius busy.
Lily and I wrote to each other almost every day. She really was a nice girl. Her and James had bought a house in Godrick's Hollow and Remus was staying with them too. Sirius and James would do things together occasionally, but we still couldn't wait until Christmas when we'd go to Godrick's Hollow to visit them....
