Mrs. Longbottom, Neville's grandmother, insisted on bringing me food and other things during my time in hiding. She and I had met while I was out walking in Godrick's Hollow, we became friends and she visited me many a time. Her grandson was sworn to secrecy and never told Harry that I existed throughout his years at Hogwarts.
One day she brought me the Daily Prophet. She excitedly chattered about things like weather for a while and then gave it to me.
"You know that I have a bad memory but I could have sworn you've mentioned this name before," she passed me the newspaper and I stared at the front page. "Now who you told me he was, I haven't a clue." On it was a huge picture of Sirius from when he was taken into Azkaban. I put my hand to my mouth in suprise. He'd escaped, but how?
"Th-thank you," I stammered. Mrs. Longbottom stayed and talked more as I sat in silent awe. Then I thought of something; Harry read the Daily Prophet didn't he? At least he didn't know Sirius was his godfather.
I showed Neville's grandmother to the door and decided that I'd write to Neville. Flinging open drawer after drawer I found a quill, ink, and parchment. I hoped Neville remembered me; he'd only came with his grandmother to visit once and as I said before, was sworn to secrecy. I scratched out a quick note:
Neville, read this AWAY from Harry.
I hope you remember me, Victoria. I need you to write me if you find anything out about Sirius Black, okay?
~Victoria~
Since Lily was dead, Figment was my owl. I tied the note to his leg and sent him on his way.
It was a few days before I got a reply:
Victoria.
Yes I remember you, but why are you concerned about this Black person. Rumor has it that he's heading for Hogwarts to kill Harry. Apparently he was one of You Know Who's closest 'friend'. When he told You know who about Harry's family and You know who died he vowed his revenge on Harry. There's dcementors all over here.
Sincerely, Neville
That was all wrong. And dementors? Oh, this was really bad! I wrote back:
Neville my dear,
Sirius will not harm Harry. Quite the contrary, he is trying to help him. If you see him, please do not reveal him and about why I care. I'll tell you over your summer break.
~Victoria~
Neville sat up in his bed mulling over the note when a noise made him open the curtains of his bed. There was a black dog or wolf prowling around the room. It changed into a man, he looked pale and starved. His head whipped toward Neville and Neville froze in fear. It was Black! What if Victoria was wrong?
"Don't worry," he whispered. ""Victoria told me not to tell anyone if I saw you." A flash of a smile glimmered on the man's cracked lips. Then he nodded and turned back into a dog sniffing the air. He pounced unto Ron's bed tearing the curtains grabbing for the rat that lay at the end of Ron's bed.
A shriek filled the air as Ron woke with a start. Black sprinted out of the room as Ron began to whimper about how Sirius had tried to kill him. But it was the rat he had wanted to kill..........
I recieved a letter explaining the event and started to think. Why had he leaped at the rat? Why, why, why? I had no clue, but if he wanted to kill a random rat who was I to stop him?
Neville,
You have been really nice, writing back to me. Sirius is Harry's godfather, but please don't tell him. You see. We promised his parents we'd be there when he needed us, but Dumbledore told us not to reveal ourselves until it was absolutely necessary.
~Victoria~
We kept in constant contact.
Victoria,
We? Do you mean that you're his godmother??
From, Tori
Neville,
Yes, I meant to keep that a secret. *is frustrated*
~Victoria~
After that I didn't get many letters from Neville. Until toward the end of the school year:
Victoria Going to give black dementors kiss harry disappeared not in his bed neither is ron
The dementor's kiss! My god.... and Harry was gone? Maybe Sirius lost his mind or sommething.
I put my hands in my hair and screamed scaring Kreacher and Figment. I hadn't eaten or slept in two days worrying about Sirius. He was going to drive me mad! When I got control of myself, i wrote Neville back.
Neville he cannot get the Dementors Kiss!
I didn't sign it but Neville could guess who it was from. I slept restlessly all night. The next afternoon Neville wrote me again:
Victoria,
Brilliant news! Black is gone and so is Hagrid's hippogriff and Harry is back.
From: Neville
That was brilliant news! I hoped Sirius would come back here...
