You had dreamt about this day and now you were finally living it. You had been auditioning for some small tv shows and got a few minor roles, but now you had finally landed a huge movie deal. You were going to be playing Brenda in the second instalment of The Maze Runner — The Scorch Trials.
Your audition had been a lot better than you expected, clearly, and now you had arrived to the first day of shooting for your big scene. You hadn't really met the rest of the cast and did some reading with Dylan O'Brien and Giancarlo Esposito for your audition, but you hadn't seen either of them since.
"I can't believe I'm dropping my best friend off at her first day on a movie set." She had been blubbering about how proud of you she was the entire ride here and practically begged you to let her drive you.
"I'm really nervous." You shook your hands, taking up time as the car motor ran on.
"You've got this! Text me when you want me to come pick you up, I'll be spending my day waiting for the text." She pecked you on the cheek and reached over to hug you. "Go break a leg!" She cheered as you finally got the courage to pull yourself from the car seat and onto the dusty set.
There were a few official looking people around and one of them guided you to the trailers. There were signs for everything — food, drinks, casts, make up, hair, costumes, everything! It was all very Hollywood and soon your nerves were taken over by pure excitement.
"Here we go, (Y/N)." She read the name on the trailer, gave you some instructions and wished you luck.
The trailer was smaller than you had expected, but you imagined the real stars had huge trailers. You were just trying to make a name for yourself and you were happy with everything. You set your things down and followed some signs to the place the lady had instructed you to follow.
"Quiet on set." You heard as you felt like you were nearing the action. The trailers turned to big lights and cameras as you approached the set. You spotted your chair in a huddle of others including Giancarlo Esposito and Kaya Scodelario.
"Here she is. (Y/N), right?" Giancarlo addressed you as he heard you walk in. You barely nodded as he reached out for your hand.
"I love Breaking Bad." You spat out, in awe of the casual encounter that was happening, completely starstruck. He chuckled and shook his head acting like this happened all the time.
"You're not the first person to tell me that today. First time on a big movie set, huh?" He asked as you both took in the set around you.
"That obvious?" You smiled, still in awe.
"Come on, then." He signalled for you to follow him and took you to where they were actually shooting something. He placed one finger to his lips to show you to be quiet.
Sure enough, on set you saw Ki Hong Lee, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario, Dexter Darden, Jacob Lofland and Dylan O'Brien. They were shooting the scene just before yours. You watched on as the ran towards the ragged door. The special effects team worked with the lightning in the background as the cast carried themselves through the fake sandstorm.
"And cut!" The director, Wes, yelled. "Nice take, guys. I think we have it. Next scene!" Everyone around you started clapping to welcome the end of one scene and the start of a new one. That's when he found you.
"(Y/N)! Wow, great to see you! How are you?" Wes strutted up to you with two people behind him.
"Excellent, excited," you rattled trying to understand your emotions.
"Great. This is your team and they'll take great care of you. You're up next, lets do this!" Before you knew it the two people behind him guided you into hair, makeup and costuming where they worked their magic. You rehearsed the lines over and over in your head as they applied layer after layer of makeup. Soon enough you were being escorted to the set.
"There we go, welcome Brenda!" Wes gathered with you and explained the rough idea he had for the scene and to make sure you had your cue. You waited behind a dark opening as they prepared for the run through.
"Alright! Cameras ready, prac 1, take 1." We'd waited for a brief moment for a few nods. "Action!" He yelled.
The chaos of the previous scene carried through as the scene began. You watched in a set TV as Ki Hong, Thomas, Kaya, Dexter, Jacob and Dylan burst through the door. The scene played on and your drew some deep breaths for your first defining moment. They hit your cue and immediately took character, swaying your way onto set and making your first encounter with everyone through Brenda.
You spoke your last line and guided everyone through your door before Wes yelled. "Perfect, just perfect! Let's see it again in five."
"Nice job!" Kaya high-fived you as you both introduced yourself. "Nice having another girl on set actually." The rest of the cast introduced themselves, all wanting to shake your hand.
"Is this your first?" Thomas asked as his once American accent disappeared.
"Movie, yes." You grew out of your Brenda shell.
"Awesome!" Dexter high fived you now. You caught a glint of Dylan out of the side of your eye, staring at you while he took some water. You were obsessed with Teen Wolf, but you weren't about to make the same mistake twice.
"Okay, rolling!" Wes yelled and the cast returned.
The rest of the day continued on and you got in on some jokes with the cast, just joking around when someone missed a line or they paused filming and danced for the camera. They were all very quick to make you feel comfortable and even invited you out for dinner.
The day drew to an end and you returned to your trailer to become yourself again, not that it wasn't fun playing Brenda.
"Hey!" Dylan caught your attention as you stepped out from your trailer having waved goodbye to your stylist.
"Hi." He made you nervous because of how starstruck he made you feel.
"Just wanted to check in with you, your first movie can be a bit daunting and all these guys are probably a bit overwhelming." He spoke honestly with the Stiles smile only in real life.
"Today was probably the best day of my life." You couldn't help yourself, it was.
"Walk with me?" You nodded. You continued to talk a bit more. He tried relating with you, he was still fairly new to the big screen and knew what it was like. He listened and laughed. He was just like you had imagined. You're going to have to take down that poster, you thought to yourself as he told you about the ancient burial ground you were filming on.
"Well anyway, you alright to get home?" He stopped you by the edge of the set.
"Oh no!" You realised that you forgot to text (Y/BFF/N). Dylan distracted you at your trailer and you never told her to come. You looked out at the dark night and the lights being shut off one by one.
"Forgot to call someone?" Your look said it all. "I've got you, hop in." He pulled the door open for you and ushered you in pulling a smile you'd never forget.
