The dimmed lights and smooth music created the perfect mood for your eighth month anniversary. You admired the man sat across for you in his dress shirt and pants. He had personally picked out your outfit, the emerald, off-shoulder dress bringing out eyes. You held his hand across the table as his face lit up while he told you about his day.

"I missed you," he finishes, releasing a long breath. You placed a small kiss to the palm of his hand.

"Should we take this party back home?" You lean towards him and whisper so that only he can hear.

"Sounds good," he caresses your hand, leaning in as well to kiss your cheek. "Let me just use the bathroom." You nod as you watch him leave, only releasing his hand when you can't reach any further.

You almost lose track of time scrolling through your instagram. It's only when you reach a photo you liked earlier that you realised how long Dylan had been away.

"Excuse me, ma'am." A waiter steals your attention from your phone, "Here's the bill."

"Thank you, we'll just be a few more minutes," you try to explain. She nods and smiles before leaving.

You can't help but feel concerned that something happened. Maybe there were some fans, or maybe it was food poisoning or maybe something worse you feared. You got up from your seat, trying not to look too worried and keeping as calm as you could as not to draw attention to yourself.

You knocked on the males toilet and watched as a waiter walked by giving you a judging glance, but you just tried to play it off.

"Dylan?" You whispered through the door, hoping he would hear. You checked for on lookers before speaking his name slightly louder. With a deep breath, you pushed through the door with eyes closed.

"Dylan, you okay?" You had your arms outstretched in front of you as you navigated inside. "Is there anyone else in here?"

You slowly began to open your eyes, peering through your eyelashes.

"Who's this?" You notice there's another woman in the mens bathroom, but you're not the voice.

"Dylan?" You question, finally finding him behind the woman wearing the same hot pink shade of lipstick as Ms Mysterious with her hand in his pocket.

"Dani..." He mumbles, dragging out the end of your name.

"Dani," her eyes scan you over with venom in her voice, "I'm his ex." Her smile is poisonous as her eyes narrow. You take a moment to trail the blonde's leggy figure and small waist.

"Oh," you reply, looking down at your feet.

"Dani," Dylan speaks out again.

"Always good to see you, baby." She clutches on to his arm, "call me," she winks his way before passing by you.

"I'm going to go," you can feel his stare burning into your face.

"Let me take you! Let's go home," he reaches his arm out.

"Better not," you bitterly bite back and rush through the doors no longer afraid to hold the tears.

Safe to say you weren't planning on seeing Dylan ever again. You spent the first week sulking, barely replying to work emails and over indulging in chocolate fudge ice-cream.

Your friends had been helping you avoid him and distracting you from him. You had been out to a club every Friday and Saturday night for the past four months. They had even blocked him from your phone after the first few times you tried to reply his apologies and to avoid accidental drunk texting.

You were feeling ready for today as you tucked your feet into your shoes and grabbed your purse. You tucked a loose piece of hair behind your ear as you passed by the mirror. Your reflection was concealing the mass of emotions you were feeling inside, but nevertheless you left your apartment ready for the days challenges.

"Dani!" Your usual barista greeted you.

"Laura, just the usual today, thanks." You began to ruffle in your purse before you noticed the Laura was just standing with a smile on her face.

"Your coffee has already been paid for and it's waiting behind you." Her smile had grown ten times the size of her face as she danced with her eyebrows.

"Dani," the familiar voice spoke. You couldn't help but roll your eyes and step to the side before regretfully turning around.

"Dylan," you miss eye contact and steal your coffee from his hand.

"Sit with me?" He whines. You don't reply and instead take a seat by the window.

"I don't have a lot of time," you continue to avoid eye contact.

"I screwed up, Dani, and I'm so sorry." He begins. You leave him in silence as you sip your beverage. "She came into the bathroom after me and I hadn't seen her in a while and-"

"Do I want to hear that?"

"Sorry," he pauses for a brief moment and you make it obvious when you look at your watch. "What I'm saying is that I'm sorry, okay? I miss you, I miss us. I was so stupid and I love you, okay, I love you."

You let a few moments pass as you drink your coffee to avoid answering and allowing you to think. "Well, obviously things won't go back to how they were if we did get back together."

"Will you be able to look at me?" He jokes with a small smirk. You nervously flick your eyes in his direction before sheepishly looking back at your hands.

"I'd happily spend a lifetime making it up to you." He reaches his hand across the table and you know he wants you to reach for it, smile and forget.

"I'm going to be late for work," you step out of your seat.

"I'll pick you up at 8," he speaks after you.

"7:30!" You call back, trying suppress your smile.
