Game Over.

I stepped from under the desk, stripping by visibility illusion and stood at the back, watching Ava as she stared at me with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

“You’re a great witc-friend, Ava,” I said back, my voice hoarse and tired.

“Charletta,” she said calmly. For some reason, she wasn’t showing her fury like she normally did with me. She just looked sad. “You must understand where I am coming from. It wouldn’t be wise to let you back into his life. He has moved on, and you need to.”

“I get the memo, Ava. I’m going,” I said sadly, not meeting her eyes.

“I know you love him,” she whisphered, and I looked up at her, startled. “But he can’t love you.”

He couldn’t.  I was so wrong for him.

“I understand. I’m not looking for a fight Ava. I will leave. I just wanted to see him one last time,” I said.

“Well you have,” she said back.

That was my cue. I had to go. I nodded politely with my head down, and then I walked out of the door to the classroom like I was leaving nothing behind.

Even though my heart was.
