Niall's POV

My drive to the hospital took forever. The afternoon traffic was heavy, everyone wanted to get to their destination all at once.

I sighed as I parked my car in the car port. The sound of my door shutting echoed through the space. I carried the various cards and stuffed animals in my arms and began to approach the elevator door.

"Let me get that for you sir." A woman smiled as she hit the button to open the elevator doors.

"Thank you." I smiled back as I entered. She stood against the opposite wall and stared at the ground.

"You have quite the package." She broke the silence.

"Excuse me?" I asked dumbfounded.

"Your stuffed animals and many cards."

"Oh yea. They're for this girl."

"You must love her."

"Well-."

"Is she your girlfriend?" She asked.

"Well, no. Just a close friend." I answered honestly.

"Do you love her?" She asked yet another question.

"I don't know." I whispered.

"I think you do." She smirked before exiting the elevator and onto her floor. I sighed and walked out, balancing a stuffed bear on my arm. Why did she care? It wasn't her business. She must work as an interrogator.

I knocked on her room door, a faint "come in" sounded from the other side. I entered, carefully shutting the door so it wouldn't be loud.

"Good Afternoon Niall." I heard her sweet voice speak.

"Hey Dill, I brought you stuff." I smiled as I set the stuff down at the foot of her bed. She smiled and sat up, her red hair flowing to one side as she dove for the presents.

"Aww, they got me cards." She gasped as she looked at a card from the art department. She smiled and carefully broke the seal before reading the contents. When she finished her grin grew. She looked up at me, suddenly her grin faded a little.

"What happened to your face?" She asked.

"What do you mean?"

"You have a scratch above your eye and on your cheek." Her voice softened to a concerned tone.

"It's noting, I got in a small fight today."

"You what? With who? Why?" She stammered.

"I got in a fight with Joey. He said some mean things about you and I got mad." I sighed before rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.

"Was it worth it?"

"Worth what?"

"Fighting over me? I'm sure Joey probably looks even worse."

"It was worth it! Because you're worth it! No one should say things like that to a human being!" My voice began to rise.

"I understand Niall, but it's not worth getting in a fight and hurting people. Two wrongs don't make a right." She sighed before opening another card.

"Oh look, this one says they miss me and can't wait for me to come back to school." She smiled. I nodded and sat down on the couch.

"That's nice."

"Niall, you look sleepy." She smirked.

"Nah, I'm fine." I spoke through a yawn, damn it.

"Where's your mom and dad?" I asked, trying to keep a conversation flowing so I wouldn't fall asleep.

"They went back to work, they should be here around 7." She answered before flipping on the television.

"That's good." I yawned again. I closed my eyes for a second, which turned into more. The last thing I remember was Dylan covering me with a blanket and whispering "Goodnight Niall."

Dylan's POV

While Niall napped on the couch I began to go through the rest of my mail. I smiled at the kind letters and some colored pictures from some students. I stacked them in a pile on my bedside table and watched the rest of my show. I smiled over at the sleepy boy on the couch, his blonde hair was ruffled the air conditioning vent blowing above him. He scrunched up his nose in his sleep for only a second and then slightly smiled. I bet he was having a lovely dream.

I began to get bored of just sitting here. It's lonesome being in a boring hospital all day. The doctor said I could be released soon as long as I came back for group therapy every Thursday.

I'm actually kinda glad now that I didn't get the chance to go through with it. I wouldn't have gotten to get to know Niall, I wouldn't have gotten to graduate, I wouldn't have experienced any of my adult life, or a peaceful death.

The movie The Notebook came on on the TV. This movie always gets me. I love the beginning and the middle, but the end always makes me cry. I watched on as Niall snored in the corner.

As the ending approached I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes. I tried to hold them in, but failed.

"Why are you crying?" Niall startled me.

"Oh gosh, you scared me."

"Why are you crying?" He repeated his question.

"This movie is really sad." I answered as I looked back at the screen. I felt the bed sink as Niall sat down next to me. He wrapped his arms around me as I continued to cry. I leaned back in his chest as he rested his head on my shoulder. He wiped a stray tear from my cheek, relaxing me a little.

"Please don't cry." He whispered. I sighed and wiped my face of tears. "You're too beautiful to cry." He added. My mouth opened a little in shock. Did he really think I was beautiful?
