Dylan's POV
"Dylan? Where are you?" A faint voice in the distance called. I was in a white foggy place, it was hard to see.
"Who are you?" I called back. Then I saw a figure coming closer to me.
"It's your sister? McKara." She walked closer, she was dressed in white.
"Where a-am I?" I stammered.
"You're in heaven silly. You came to pay me a visit right?"
"I was in the hospital." I whispered.
"Why didn't you go through it? Huh? I'm lonely up here alone. Why Dylan?" I could feel her getting angry.
"I'm sorry." I muttered before trying to back up, my back hitting a wall.
"You could have saved me! You could have stayed home that day! But no! You went with Mother to go shopping because you were the favored child!" She was shouting by now, her voice bounced off the walls surrounding us. I could feel my body trembled as I tried to get away. She continued to scream at me but I tried to block it out, I wanted out. Someone pinch me awake!
I screamed myself to consciousness. I opened my eyes to see Mother rushing to my side.
"Sweet heart! It was only a dream." She tried to sooth me. I stiffened as she tried to rub my arm to soothe me.
Just then Niall walked through the doorway, he held a small teddy bear and a stack of books. He slowly put the books down and approached my bed.
"She had a bad dream." Mother stated before kissing my forehead and adjusting my sheets that had been thrown from my body. My lips still quivered and I could feel my body tensing. My head felt like it weighed a million pounds.
"McKara was in it." I whispered before slowly looking up into Mothers eyes. She slowly nodded and grabbed her purse.
"Honey, I'll be back in a little bit. I'm going to go talk to the doctor and then I'm going to go get you some food! How does that sound?" She asked. I nodded, she was just trying to change the subject.
When she left Niall slowly sat down next to me.
"I brought you something." He smiled warmly before pulling out the teddy bear. I smiled slightly as he made it climb up my arm and peck my cheek. He smiled as he set the bear down in my lap.
"I saw your Dad today, he was mowing your lawn. I asked him if he needed help and he let me trim the rose bushes." He spoke softly as if trying to calm me, it was then when I began to cry again.
"What's wrong?"
"I w-want to g-go home." I stuttered as he wrapped his arms around me.
"I know. But you have to get better before they can release you. We can't lose you." He whispered as he used his thumb to wipe my tears away. I rested my head on his chest, his heartbeat was soft, calming, some could say refreshing to hear someone's heartbeat. For me it's not just a sign of life, but of caring. Because if you are close enough to hear one's heartbeat they must care about you.
"She asked me why I didn't do it, why I wasn't there for her. She said she was lonely and then yelled at me for not saving her." I spoke softly. The room was silent for a few seconds before Niall finally spoke.
"No one could have stopped her first of all. I remember McKara, she was a determined, stubborn, passionate person. She would have found another way if you had of stopped her. And second, Dylan that was a dream. You know she doesn't really want you to do that." He said as he rubbed his finger tips up and down my arm.
"I know, it's just hard." I whispered before closing my eyes.
"Like I said before, everything will be okay. You have a friend now." He smiled.
"What are the books for?" I asked as I looked over at the stack on the table.
"I figured you might want to read when you're bored." He smirked as he continued to rub my arms. "Go back to sleep Dylan, I'll be here when you wake up." He coaxed as I began to drift into a dreamless sleep.
Niall's POV
I walked into English Class with about 5 minutes to spare before the bell was due to ring. I slid into my seat and rested my head on my desktop. I felt someone slap the back of my head with their folder.
"What the hell?" I questioned as I sat up.
"You missed the party last night, and the party last weekend Horan." Joey spoke sourly.
"You're point? I've been busy."
"Yes, yes you have. You spend all your damn time with the suicide chick." He sneered.
"You mean Dylan?"
"Yea, her. Why is she so worth blowing off your reputation?" Joey questioned.
"Because she needs a friend and all you douches don't care. Why do you think she almost killed herself?"
"Because she's a coward." He smirked.
"No, because scums like you made fun of her for 16 years and then blame her for something she couldn't control!" My voice was rising, my fists clenched.
"What ever, she's not worth it anyways. Horan you're wasting your time, she's just going to follow her sisters footsteps eventually. Why do you even care? She's broken beyond repair." That was it, he'd taken it to far. I rammed my fist into his stomach, knocking him to the ground. I got on top of him and repeatedly hit his face. He struggled underneath me as I dominated his power.
"Niall!" I heard a girl cry out behind me.
"She's worth it! You're the one thats not! You're the reason why she almost died!" I shouted in his face. His nose bled and his lip was busted. I went to hit him again but someone held me back, Mr. Henley.
"Niall, it's not worth it. Stop!" He spoke sternly as he pulled me off Joey. Joey stood up quickly and backed away. "Joey take the pass and go get cleaned up in the nurses office. Niall, come with me to the hallway." Mr. Henley ordered before heading for the door. "Everyone else, sit down and open your textbooks to 347."
I followed him out into the hallway. Joey headed towards the nurse.
"Look Niall, I know it's been hard ever since you found Dylan. No one should have to go through that but you don't have to use your fists to deal with it."
"He was talking bad about her! What am I supposed to do? Tell the teacher on him so he can get a mark?"
"No, you should have come to me and I would have written him up." He sighed.
"So now you're going to write me up now."
"Well, being that it is a rule not to punch the heck out of another student, yes you will be getting a punishment. But being the circumstances, instead of a suspension, it will only being a detention."
"Thank you Mr. Henley. I promise it'll never happen again, I swear!" I smiled.
"Also, can you please take a few things to Dylan for me? The staff wrote a few cards and I brought her a book from my church for her to read."
"Yea sure."
"Now lets get back to class and have a better day." He smiled before opening the classroom door. Everyone's eyes followed me as I sat down in my seat. I sighed as I opened my text book to the page on the board. It was going to be a long day, I just can't wait to see Dylan again.
