Chapter 16

Harriet’s POV

‘...What do you mean you haven’t got enough money?’ I questioned down the phone to Jesse. I looked at myself in the mirror; my face was full of rage.

‘I lost my money Harriet. I can’t keep funding you and our child,’ Jesse responded calmly. I scrunched my face up then grunted loudly.

‘My child, Jesse; you said you don’t want anything to do with it,’ I claimed. Jesse can forget it if he thinks he is hanging around child.

‘Fine then, I don’t have enough money to fund you and your child!’ Jesse spat loudly.

‘Don’t raise your voice at me,’ I snapped violently. Maybe I should tell him the truth, if I can’t get his money, I don’t need him.

‘Harriet, I might get some money back soon. I’ll pay you when I get some, anyway I have to go,’ Jesse insisted.

‘Fine then, bye,’ I mumbled as I hung up. Okay I’m not going to tell Jesse yet; he might be able to get more money. I’ll give him another few months, maybe...

Geoffrey’s POV

I sat on my bed in mine and Charles’s shared bedroom. There was a plain piece of paper in front of me and a bunch of screwed up ones lying around it. I chewed my pen whilst my mind was lost in thought. What am I supposed to write? “I like you...a lot”. I looked at the piece of paper and began writing a few lines. “Dear Callie, so, I’ve been friends with you for a while now,’ I read as I wrote the words onto my paper. I tried not to smudge my writing, being left-handed always sucks when trying to write with a pen the can smudge. There was a quiet knock on the door and then Charles burst in.

‘Geoffrey we’re going to the beach,’ Charles yelled as I tried to hide all my notes. It didn’t work to well and it just ended up with paper everywhere.

‘Can’t you see I’m doing something?’ I questioned loudly as I kicked the little balls of paper under the bed.

‘Yeah I noticed that, so what’s on the paper?’ Charles asked as he walked over to a ball of paper then picked it up.

‘Don’t open that!’ I warned as I jumped up from my bed. ‘Charles I mean it,’ I spat as I grabbed onto Charles’s arm.

‘I’m so scared,’ Charles laughed as he pulled his hand away. ‘What are you so bothered about anyway?’ Charles walked back across the room and opened the crinkled paper. ‘Dear Callie,’ Charles laughed as he read the note. ‘I was going to write you a poem but I thought it might sound cheesy.’

‘Charles stop,’ I pleaded.

‘Here it goes anyway!’ Charles read in a mocking voice. I quickly snatched the paper away from Charles before he began reading my failed poem.

‘You’re an ass Charles!’ I spat as I ripped the paper in front of him.

‘Well at least you’re finally telling Callie, even though it is in the soppiest way ever,’ Charles teased as he poked my chest lightly. I stuck my tongue out at him childishly.

‘I thought you were going to the beach anyway,’ I reminded Charles. ‘Hurry up and go then.’

‘Pushy,’ Charles muttered as he turned to the door. ‘You can carry on writing love letters to Callie, see you later.’

‘Go fuck yourself!’ I shouted back in response.
