Kara opened her eyes, moving them from side to side. The room was dark, and she could hear Chris' heavy breathing beside her.
She threw a glance at him, seeing that he was asleep. She couldn't help but smile, seeing how much at peace he was in when he slept.

Kara made her way out from under the covers without waking Chris, throwing a look at the clock. It was nothing more than 6 in the morning, but she didn't mind. Kara walked towards the closet, opening it. She picked out a sweater and a pair of loose jeans, sneaking out of the bedroom. She hurried into the bathroom, getting dressed and minding her own business. The girl headed downstairs, grabbing a piece of bread, throwing some cheese on top of it. She grabbed a pen and a piece of paper, writing on it.

I had to leave early today, going home to my mother. See you later, love.
Kara left the note on the counter, reading over it. She smiled for herself as she reached for her purse, throwing it over her shoulder. She grabbed the keys to Chris' car, knowing that he wouldn't mind. Kara made her way outside, locking the door behind her. She walked up to the car, unlocking it and getting inside. She started the engine, stuffing the rest of the bread inside her mouth.

She buckled herself up, backing out of the driveway. The girl turned on the radio as she drove home to her mothers house, enjoying the time she had for herself. The sun had just arrived from behind the horizon, covering the sky with a beautiful, orange colour. Kara enjoyed the view, grateful that she had woken up this early. She honestly could have slept all morning, but she had to visit her mother, and she needed to find a dress for the prom. She had to at least try to be productive.

Kara reached her mothers home just past 7, and she spotted the old car. This meaning her mother was home, and the lights in the windows told her that she was awake. Kara turned the car off, getting out of it. She walked up the porch, grabbing the handle. The door opened, and she walked inside and listened.

-"Mom, I'm home!" Kara yelled out, making her way into the kitchen, where her mother was standing with her arms crossed.
-"Where on earth have you been, sweetie? Have you found your dress yet?" Janet asked, looking up and down her daughter.
-"No, not yet. I'm going to the supermarket today, it opens in an hour," Kara said, settling down in a chair. Janet sighed, and Kara could hear her mothers heartbeat rise as she settled down beside her.

-"We need to have a little chat, Kara," Janet said, holding tightly around her coffee cup.
-"Alright, what's up?" Kara asked, looking at her mother. She had expected the woman to mention Chris, but she didn't.
-"I'm going away, traveling for work and I'll be gone for quite some weeks. I've had a conversation with your father, who'll come here and watch over you while I'm gone," Janet said, swallowing hard. She knew Kara didn't like her father, and didn't even want to meet him.

-"You should have left him there to die, in the car wreck. He shouldn't have survived, honestly. I don't care, mom. He can stay here, but I'm going to be staying over at Chris' place. He won't mind," Kara said, shaking her head. One thing was true - she hated her father for abandoning them.
-"Come on, Kara. I know the two of you are strangers, but it's a few weeks. Please try to get to know him, for my sake. He's your father after all," Janet said, crossing her arms.

-"He'll never be my father, and he stopped being one the day he left us. I am not going to stay with him, I refuse. He's an asshole!" Kara yelled, forcing her fist into the table. She felt her anger rise, and she looked away from Janet, breathing deeply.
-"Your father left for our safety, Kara. The both of us could and probably would have been dead by now if he didn't leave. Rob loved and still loves you as his daughter. Please give the man a chance," Janet said, seeming defeated. Kara got up from her seat, annoyed.

-"Fine, but only because you asked me to. I won't respect him, but I can talk to him like civilised people. That's all. I have to get going now, have a lot to do. If I don't see you before you leave, have safe travels, okay? Love you!" Kara called after her as she left the kitchen, walking back out the way she had come.
Kara walked into the car and settled down, and as she started the engine, her phone began vibrating in her purse. She picked it up, seeing that Allison was calling.
