Being that Niall was still incredibly paranoid about losing the babies somehow; he made sure that we got tickets for the ferry over to Ireland instead of taking a plane. I couldn't really complain seeing as I ended up really loving the ride on the big boat. Niall, on the other hand, threw up in the tiny bathroom on the boat about halfway through the trip. The poor guy was groaning the rest of the way there with a green face and heavy lids. His head was planted on my shoulder lazily, rolling around with every little wave that we hit along the way to Ireland. A little girl had given him a doggy bag at some point, and he hadn't used it at that point, but I didn't think it would be a stretch to say that he would eventually. The hand that wasn't hanging onto the little bag was placed over top of my small bump as if just having it there put him at ease.

Nerves were high during the trip; we were on our way to Mullingar to meet with Bobby, Chris, Denise, Greg, and Maura in order to tell them the big news. There was no doubt in our minds that it would be a happy occasion, but the excitement and anticipation was making my knee bounce at a mile a minute. I was wearing a sweater that masked my little bump, an extra measure to make sure that our surprise was really a surprise. We had called a little bakery in Dublin to request a cake for the announcement and we were going to pick it up as soon as we got there.

Niall let out a loud groan when the ferry was docked and everyone was filing off. He practically dragged me off of the ferry; he couldn't get off of the 'rocking death trap' fast enough. I didn't even understand why he had gotten sick; he had been on yachts and fishing boats with the boys loads of times! However, he had for some reason, and the feeling went away almost as soon as we were off of the ferry because he was as chipper as ever again.

He was almost skipping once we had picked up the cake from the bakery, and the smile on his face put all others to shame. The people around us were giving him odd stares, but he hardly cared. The babies were healthy, we were getting married soon, and we were about to spend some quality time with his family. It was all that mattered to him.

We took a taxi out to Mullingar; the fair was large, but Niall had no problem with paying for it. He was the one holding the cake since my knee was bouncing so badly and he had to encourage me to calm down a few times. By the time that the taxi pulled up to Maura and Chris' place I felt like I was going to panic. Niall seemed to recognize my uneasiness; he grabbed my hand and placed a quick kiss on my cheek before gently tugging me along. Even though I tripped over my feet at first, I eventually picked up my pace and followed him with a bit more resolve than I possessed before.

Maura opened the door for us before we could even knock; she immediately went to hug her little boy and then me with happy squeals leaving her mouth. We were ushered into the home and brought to the living room where everyone was sitting and talking with each other. After the hugs and curious questions about what we had been up to recently, we were all able to sit down and relax again. Niall put the cake in the refrigerator and took our bags to our room before rejoining us all.

A football match was playing on the TV, Chris and Bobby were watching it intently whenever there were excited calls coming from it. Lots of the conversation was centered around Niall and I's approaching wedding; Maura and Denise wanted to see the ring up close while Greg teased Niall about how it took him long enough to propose. I don't think they would ever get over the fact that it took us almost three years of being best friends to realize that we were in love with each other. I don't think I'd ever forgive myself for taking that long, honestly.

We only moved to the kitchen after the excitement of being there dulled down to a happy little buzz deep in the bones. Niall brought out the covered cake from the refrigerator; he was being really careful with it as he told everyone to gather around at the table. They did as he said; Maura sat at the head of the table and clapped her hands as Niall placed the cake down in front of her. She looked at the box as if she was expecting it to explode right there. Niall only opened the box so when everyone was settled in their spots, and when he did we both took in a sharp breath of anticipation.
