45 minutes have passed and Damien's hovering hand holding the dagger wouldn't move. He couldn't seem to bring down the dagger, he just couldn't. He had cried for Jade for 30 minutes and when he tried to bring down the blade his arm resisted. He couldn't hurt her again even if she became a monster. 'No... What am I doing? Jade is already dead. Only a monster will be in her place.' Damien thought feverishly, trying to get his hand to do the deed. He looked at Jade again, her lips had become blue with cold, even though Damien was holding her freezing body against his warm chest. "This is it. I have failed Jade and I won't fail at this as well." Damien thought.
He leaned down, his lips brushing Jade's freezing ones and kissed her softly. New tears falling down unto her face. His body shook from a sob that came deep within him, his arm holding the dagger felt as heavy as his heart. He wished that somehow his kiss would have done something to her. Like in those fairy tales his father told him as a child where all it took was a kiss to cure the one you loved. But this wasn't a fairy tale where a kiss could fix the problem. Jade was dead. Dead. That word kept ringing in Damien's head over and over. If only this was a fairy tale, Damien wished bitterly. He held the dagger above Jade's heart when he saw it. A flutter of Jade's eyelids.
Damien gasped, not sure what he saw was true or if his grieving mind was playing tricks on him. Maybe it was just his tear-filled eyes making him see things not there. "Jade?" Damien whispered, the hope in his voice as clear as day. There! Again, Jade's eyes fluttered every so lightly. Damien heart sped up as if he was in battle. 'It couldn't be possible' Damien's mind wasn't able to process what was occurring before him. He lowered his hand holding the dagger, putting the dagger back into his pocket.
"Jade?" Damien asked again, wishing for a response. Wishing that Jade was somehow really healed by his kiss. He thought for a moment, Damien was the only Light for the past 2 centuries to be a healer. It was a gift he had all but forgotten about in his mad fight to get to Jade on time. He had healed himself many times before in the past but when he had seen Jade chained to the ground, he hadn't cared for this fact. He just knew he had to save her. Maybe... Damien's mind was racing with the possibilities. 'Maybe his kiss actually healed her. Brought her back from death.' He thought feverishly.
Jade's eyelids fluttered again and she let out a low groan, that was barely audible. But Damien saw her lips move and his eyes widened in hope. New tears started forming in his eyes, tears of unending joy. "Jade?" Damien said louder, and Jade's eyes flickered a bit more. His heart raced, Jade was alive. He would have more time with her. He would be able to talk to her again, laugh, kiss, to be with her again. Damien couldn't believe that he would be able to stare into Jade's beautiful emerald green eyes again.
"Jade, I love you." Damien said and Jade arm twitched. She was beginning to wake from consciousness. There was a part of Damien, the rational part that screamed at him, saying Jade couldn't come back from the dead. That his healing powers only could go so far. That Damien was in denial of the fact Jade was dead, only a monster in her place. But the greater side of Damien, the love-sick full of hope wouldn't listen. Jade was alive. His kiss had healed her and that was final. Jade let out another low groan, her eyes fluttering more.
Damien leaned in close to Jade's face, his finger running across her cheek, rubbing away his tears from her face. Jade's eyes fluttered more and Damien's breath caught in his throat. He planted a soft kiss on Jade's forehead, just above her brow. Jade loved when he kissed her there, she would always say it made her feel like one of the princesses she was told about as a kid. How it made her feel special.
