With the departure of Dimitri, Damien had left the park a bit wiser on trusting his gut as well as leaving armed. He was a bit thrown of schedule do to the nearly being strangled to death by the Lacertae yet he doubted Dan would cut him some slack. Damien rushed to his next house that he had to search. Before Damien had let his house Dan had told him what houses to search.
The village was made up of about 30 small cabin spread about the valley in which the village was located in. Dan had split the houses into thirds, but since he and Jade were traveling together they would search 20 houses. Damien had been left with the park and 10 houses to search. Had Damien known before hand that a Lacertae was lurking in the park, he wouldn't have searched it in the first place. 'But the past was the past, can't change what happened.' Damien thought bitterly, his neck was covered in purple bruises in the shape of the demon lizard's hands. He let out a sigh and walked quickly until he reached the house.
The cabin wasn't anything spectacular, it was just a normal cabin. Not many Lights had stone/brick homes because it was hard material to make. Damien's father who was a hunter and provider for the village had been given a brick home. But again that was a rarity. The cabin in front of him had wooden beams that held the wooden walls in place and its windows were square boxes in the wall. It was a rather small place to call home. But it looked like it had been a cozy warm place before the darkness came, a place where a family of happy Lights once called home.
Damien braced himself as he walked in the front door, not knowing what to expect in the house. Dead bodies left behind? Another Lacertae or some other type of gruesome demon? He didn't know what but he gripped his light dagger that much tighter. At first sight the house seemed empty and the silence from outside only intensified in the confined space.
Damien creeped quietly in the house, the house was quite larger once your in the inside and he took his time in searching every room, which was about 5 in the house. On his search of the third room he heard a noise and jumped. His grip on his dagger tightened till his knuckles were white and his hand felt a bit numb. He walked to where he heard the noise, which was behind a bed in the room he had been searching. He slowly inched forward trying to gain the upperhand by a surprise attack and the closer he got the more his heart raced.
Damien took another step and his body froze, the floor creaking loudly underneath his foot. He flinched and mentally cursed himself, knowing his element of surprise was ruined. Damien let out a loud yelp when something small jumped up from behind the bed, a flash of silver from a knife showed that this person was armed. Damien swallowed his scream and breathed holding his dagger steady as his eyes fell on his attacker, and took sight of them.
It was a tiny girl, maybe seven years old, her eyes were wide with fear and she gasped for breath. When they both realized that they were not going to kill each other, they lowered their weapons, the girl's lip was quivering. Before Damien could say anything to relieve the tension, the little girl burst into tears, loud sobs filling the silent house. Damien reacted instantly, wrapping his arm comfortingly around the girl as her body shuddered with her sobs.
"Hey, it will be okay." He said softly, rubbing her back gently, "There are other survivors out there. We aren't alone and we can get through." A t that the girl, who had been crying into his shoulder glanced up at him. Her dark blue eyes lighting up with hope, and her crying subsided.
