 Isaiah P.O.V.

Our pack owned an inn on the outskirts of a large city called LaRousse. Its population was probably a little under a hundred thousand‘people’, and because of its choice location nearby the national parks and landmarks it was a popular tourist town. The inn we owned was large enough to room about one-hundred people, but it was so secluded-and so much smaller than the other large hotels- that only LaRousse natives knew of it. Most of my pack lived here, or further into town with their mates.

The bottom floor consisted of a large open living/gaming room that doubled as a welcoming office, a large kitchen, a dining room that could fit at least fifty people, an exercise room, an office, and public bathrooms. The second, third, and fourth floors were suites and pack bedrooms. The crash came from the fourth floor where my bedroom, and those of my high ranking subordinates, was.  This hadn’t been the first time that a pack member has tried to prank me or catch me off guard. Usually the culprit is Tyler, my beta, since he can get away with it.

But now, as I climbed the stairwell, I realized it wasn’t Tyler. No, it seemed like I was just paranoid now that I was finally alone because there was no sound or sign of any intruder. The carpeted floors did not creak or protest as I crept through the hallway and surveyed the area. Nothing seemed to be there so I made my way back to the staircase to go back to the living-room. But then, a strong scent caught my attention. It was smothered, but still distinct, and coming from the direction of my bedroom.

I followed it down the hall, attempting to decipher what exactly it smelled like and taking a deep breath as I reached for the knob. ‘fresh, and crisp… like…’. The door flung open under my grasp and the scent grew stronger. ‘fresh water… like the rain’. It was a refreshing and yet alarming smell; refreshing, because I love the rain, and alarming because I knew for a fact that no one in my pack smelled like that, not even in the slightest. Most of them smelled like different aspects of the forest, and sometimes like wet dog, but rain was never a scent that I caught off of them- never a scent that I caught off of my kind. It was beautiful and eerily calming, too calming to be of a wolf.

"Who's there?"  My feet pulled me forward and into my room, where I carefully surveyed my surroundings. The window was open, and the lamp was on the floor, but overall, it didn’t seem like anything had been tampered with. But, I knew I hadn’t left my window open.

I continued walking until I stood in the middle of the space with my heart racing, but not out of fear. For some reason, I was excited. The scent was practically gone, and there was no one here, but I knew someone had been here. Some part of me felt an aching sense of disappointment now, and my chest grew tighter as I stood my ground observing the quiet room, scratching my head in confusion.

If it wasn’t someone in my pack pulling a prank, then who was it? I questioned, staring around the room and waving my arms in exasperation. As quickly as it disappeared, the scent burst back into the room, bouncing off the walls as if it were tangible, like it could knock me over and hold me under its weight. My mouth began to water, but not out of hunger as it overwhelmed me and I took a step back.

Someone was here.

"Show yourself, I know you're here." I said in a tone too gentle to be demanding, immediately reprimanding myself, gaining my composure and taking a confident step forward. 'This could be an enemy!'

"This will be the last time I 'request' for you to show yourself, creature." I nearly snarled.

Her P.O.V.

I felt like I was on fire, my mouth ran dry and my skin grew hot. The man in front of me- he made me itch and burn to touch him and I wanted nothing more than to reach out and run my fingers along his jaw line and- “Show yourself, I know you’re here.”

His voice knocked me out of my musings. I had been spacing out again and I knew that if it had kept up I probably would have lost concentration on my spell and given in to temptation. I shivered, taking note of the possible consequences of me being found; I would lose my position as heir and or be killed by the were in front of me, that or I would explode out of self-loathing, completely ruining his furnishings with all of my detached appendages. ‘Okay, now I know I’m out of it, I’m never this morbid!’

"This will be the last time I request for you to show yourself, creature."

He approached where I stood, every inch of him emanating frustration, caution, and confusion. I was taken aback '...Creature?!' I thought angrily, had I not been so concentrated on concentrating, I might have actually replied, and I was probably lucky that I was distracted, had I blown my cover in their den, they would have found their reason to go to war.

There were two routes of escape at this time, through the window, and past the were through the door. Either way they were both risky while the man was in the room with me, so I needed to wait for him to leave. But as my thoughts began to piece together a new plan, I heard running. I continued the wait, growing slightly nervous now that I knew there were at least two of them. The runner landed on our floor and a young boy, no older than ten, burst into the doorway.

"Isaiah!" He gasped, what I assumed was the older boys name, "They're... Miles and...!" He continued panting, trying to catch his breath. "They...!" He was struggling to keep his balance so he put his hands on his knees and leaned over, letting his curly red hair fall over his face..

Isaiah cut the boy off "Logan- do you smell that?"

Logan looked up at Isaiah in confusion then dared survey the room, sniffing the air and letting his eyes wander, until finally landing on me.
