Recap!

"The three of you will be a homegroup. Also, you're finishing your senior year at Arettios highschool. You'll start on Monday."

There was a collective jaw drop between Joyia, Geovanni and I.

"Grandfather, if you don't mind my asking... why will we be going to public highschool?"

"For your next mission of course!"

Public high school – really, grandfather?

At first glance, Arettios High looks like a normal school; it has human teenagers, teachers, principals, and janitors—the whole enchilada. The school was one large modern brownstone building, with an annoyingly long parking lot that wrapped around the campus. It almost seemed normal, but the second I stepped on campus I could tell something was off. Arettios High had an unusually high amount of mythics (vampires, werecreatures, cursed ones, and fey) inhabiting its halls. There were not only student mythics, but teachers as well. Although I knew it would be like this, it was still a surprising sight to see such a big congregation of Mythics.

We walked into the brightly lit hall on our search for the front office. Dark blue lockers lined the walls and skylights shined down from above us. There were several students in the hall, some were at their lockers, others sitting against the walls in groups, and some were walking at a slow pace, like us.

Joy made a ‘tsk’ noise before leaning over to whisper in my ear, her tone laced with disgust. “Do you see them?”

“Who? Joyia, I think I see everyone.”

“The fey girl and the vampire! Do you see them? That’s disgusting I think I’m going to be sick.” It was loud, the sound of her eyes rolling I mean.

I looked over to the couple she was talking about. Through human eyes they’re a couple driven insane by hormones. The guy has her backed up against the lockers and they’re making out like they’re the only ones in the world…  But, looking past the glamour, I can see his fangs extending as the fey girl bites into his shoulder. They’re feeding off of one another, I shuddered. It’s gross, but I’m not supposed to be able to see it, and neither is Joy.

“Because of their blatant disregard for the rules against PDA? Or, because of the poorly glamoured fangs?”  I said leaning closer and muttering the part about their fangs under my breath.

“Both! Seriously, no one wants to see them draining each other, and come on, they’re practically smexing it up, smack dab in the middle of the campus!”  She flailed her hands about exasperatedly in their direction as her voice raised an octave. The couple stopped to look at us as we approached. Joyia had gotten a little too loud for her own good. I seriously hope they didn’t hear the ‘draining each other’ part.

“Joy, hun. That will be us soon enough, so don’t start being hypocritical!” Geovanni chose the perfect time to cut in, having caught up with us from parking the car, and the mythic couple went back to their ‘previous distraction’. As we continued down the hall, they fell into their own little world. Geo wrapped his arm around Joy’s waist and pulled her closer to him. He was definitely marking his territory for all the school to see; kissing her and making her giggle then looking up to glare every time a male stared at her.
