Business. What did he mean business? After ten years of holding us captive, feeding us almost nothing, putting us on thin brown blankets for beds, he wants to discuss business?
"What business?" Chloe asked in disgust."We want answers!"
"Like I said, all will be answered soon enough."
I was thinking about what the man said in the sun room. We Passed. Passed. Passed.
"What did we pass, exactly?" I asked, fishing for answers.
"How many times do I have to say it? All will be answered!" The man yelled.
We were approaching a large gray door."Now. We are about to open this door. When we do, like I've said several times, all will be answered. You may ask any question you like inside."
We entered. The room was ginormous. It was the biggest room I have ever been in. The moment we walked in the tall man said "Questions?" We looked at him, wondering if he was serious.
"What's your name?" Chloe blurted.
"That's not a relevant question-"
"You said all will be answered."
"My name is Shaton. It's Indian. It means father of the shade, and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't talk about it."
"What is this place?" Zoie asked.
"This place is called Experimental Labs for Elemental Beings. Or ELEB for short."
"What did we pass? You said we passed back in that weird sun room thingy." I said, a little louder than I wanted.
"You passed a little, well, not really little, but a ten year trial, or test." Shaton said. I realized that we had been put into captivity on that day."It tests your ability of elemental access. You all have elemental energy inside you. Chloe has water, Zoie has fire, and you, Alex, have a very rare but very powerful element. Darkness. I don't know how you got it, but you did. It is very hard to control. That's why we are transferring you to a new lab."
We all looked at him, baffled. We had elemental power? Why us? I guess Zoie was always fascinated by fire, and Chloe as always a great swimmer, but why am I darkness? Oh no.
Darkness.
