Chapter 12

“Hello my Lord and Lady, I will be your escort today,” I said as I finally got to the meeting sight. Right now they were sitting in a horse drawn carriage, the one that I would be leading back.

“There are not many people here to protect us if something should go wrong,” The lord stated as he did notice our small numbers.

“Don’t worry, this is more than enough, we are in fact the best of the best my Lord. But we should be heading out,” I said and I got the horses to start heading back towards the castle.

We have not been going for more than half an hour when I heard it. A howl in the night air, and I knew it was not one of ours.

“Shit you guys we are about to have company, Charlie get up here and take the rains, whatever you do, do not lose control. Vern and Mike you are with me, we have to pin point these bastards before they get the advantage.” Veronica or Vern and Mike began to look through the forest trying to find them, but I began to search for their minds.

“Shit!!” I yelled then jumped to where Charlie was sitting just in time to intercept the attack of one of the Lycan. We went tumbling to the ground and the carriage kept on going. It didn’t take me long to take out the Lycan, I pulled my sword from his dead body and took off after the carriage.

I saw that Vern had her hands full with two lycan and Mike with one; amazingly they had managed to stay on the carriage and keep them away from Charlie and the Lord and Lady.

I jumped back onto the roof and took out one of the ones that were fighting Vern. I turned just in time to see another one come up and take out Mike.

“NOOOOO!!!!!” I yelled but it was too late. This really pissed me off. The two lycan came towards me but I stopped them with my mind and quickly took their heads off with the sword. I then turned and took out the last one, the one that was still fighting with Vern.

The rest of the ride was uneventful, there were no more attacks. I took off the sweater that I was wearing and but it over Mike’s lifeless body.

“I am sorry that I couldn’t protect you,” I said and then gave him a small kiss on the forehead.

“Mary it’s not your fault. You did everything that you could,” Veronica said trying to cheer me up.

“Apparently not, I should have been able to save him. He didn’t deserve this, and I should have been faster, did everything that I could,” I said. To me that meant that I should have used my powers, I know that Brian said to keep them a secret. I just hate watching innocent die, especially when I could have done something.

We pulled the carriage through the main gates of the castle and we got down tired and covered in blood. I was the one that was carrying the body of Mike.

“What the hell happened?” Marcus asked as he saw the shape that we were in.

“Some rogue Lycan decided that they were going to try taking out the Lord and Lady, but don’t worry nothing happened to them. But... ummm.. Mike didn’t make it, one of them came up behind him and killed him before I had the chance to do anything,” I said handing Marcus the body.

“We just came over here to thank you and say that we are sorry for the loss of your friend. You really are the best of the best,” The lord said coming over to me.

“Thank you my Lord,” I said bowing my head a little out of respect.

“Please the name is Jasper, this is my wife Hazel and our kids Theodore (looks about 19-20ish) and our twin daughters Sylvia and Prudence (Look about twelve)” He said pointing to each of the people standing around him. I bowed my head at them as he said each of their names.

“My name is Mary Johnston and it is a pleasure to meet you all, but if you will excuse me I would like to go and get cleaned up.

With that I left the court yard and headed up to my room to take a long and well deserved shower. But luck just wasn’t on my side because I ran into Kaleb before I had the chance to get cleaned up.
