(Kaleb's POV Going back to the party)

This was it. I was just hoping that this wasn't going to scare her off. I just couldn't wait anymore; I wanted nothing more than to be able to call her mine.

"I would like to thank you all for coming, I am hoping to make this ball the best ball of my life," And that was the truth. If she said yes then I would never forget this night, well I probably wouldn't forget it if she said no either, just wouldn't be a happy memory.

"Most of you have met my date tonight, the most radiant girl in this room, Mary Johnston. This is one of the most amazing girls I have ever met. She is strong and fierce and just the strangest girl that I have ever met. She will put me in my place and then make me swoon in the same sentence. I don't know where I would be without her, she is my trainer, my friend, and my soul mate and now I would ask her to..." I didn't get to finish though; I was cut off by a guard running into the ball room.

"We are under attack!"

It was just chaos after that. Every one was trying to flee the ball room but couldn’t move through all of the panic that was in the room.

“Everyone calm down!” My father voice echoed through the panic it calmed everyone one down, "Now, I don't know what is going on, but we have a safe room here that is big enough for everyone here. If you will please follow the escorts calmly they will take you to safety."

I watched as all of the panic seemed to melt away at the sound of my fathers voice. I hope that one day I will be able to command a crowd like him. But those thoughts quickly got over run by my panic. I didn’t want Mary here if there was an attack, I couldn’t live if something happened to her.

Everyone began to follow the guards out of the room only to discover that we were being lead into a trap. Whoever was attacking the castle had cut off out route to safety. Again, almost instantaneously the panic and chaos began again as everyone realized that we were trapped.

“Mary we have to go!” I said grabbing her hand trying to pull her away from the fight. I couldn’t concentrate if I knew she was out here. I was just thinking about getting her to safety.

“I can’t Kaleb, I have to stay and fight. It is my job,” she said. I could see the pleading in her eyes but I didn’t want to leave her here. I didn’t want to chance that she couldn’t get hurt.

“Fine!” I yelled finally giving in, “But I am staying with you!”

She didn’t say anything after that but she did grab her skirt and ripped it off of her dress to reveal a pair of pants underneath.

“What you just knew that this was going to happen?” I said glaring at her rather suspiciously, I mean who just has pants on underneath a tear away skirt.

“I am always prepared. All of my skirts do this, I know better than to try and fight in a skirt, it just doesn’t work,”

“Whatever,” I said, it’s not like a really had any reason to doubt her.

By this time Mary had already ran into the fight. I was keeping my eye on her but I was busy fighting my own enemies. I had grabbed a sword off of one of the dead men around me. I had just pulled my sword out of another man when I looked over and Mary was gone.

I tried to look around for her but every time I turned my head I was met with another enemy. I had to use some of the fighting skills that Mary had taught me. I kicked the feet out from under the man nearest to me as my sword slashed through the man standing close to him.

I don’t know how long Mary was gone but I was fighting with another vampire when I saw her come back into the room.

“Where the hell were you?” I asked in the misted of the fighting.
