"It's been a year, we can't keep dismissing our problems." Camila slammed the patio door shut, Y/N smacked her lips together in distress.
"I'm not, damn it!" She raised her voice, "I need more time, Camila." Y/N slapped her arms to her sides, Camila blinked harshly at the sudden movement. Noticing her mistake, Y/N stepped back and softened her tone.
"Sorry." She apologized, gently opening her arms for Camila to move in to. She kissed the top of her girlfriend's head in a comforting manner.
Camila huffed, "Time isn't going to do anything anymore. We need to do something about this," She pointed between both of them, "About us,"
Halfway through the year, after Camila's realization, both girls decided to make their relationship official. However, the baggage from their past was creating barriers for their present, and the stability they ached for began to sway.
"Well, my mom's coming for dinner tonight..." Y/N's shoulders tensed. It'd been Zayn's idea to invite her over, he thought a proper conversation would help them move forward. Harry and Y/N were against the idea but with four votes against them, they had to accept it.
"You think seeing her will help?" Camila questioned, staring off into the distance. For her, seeing Lauren would only stir the pot. Having Lauren in the back of her head and behind bars made her feel safe, she couldn't imagine coming face to face with her ex-wife ever again.
Y/N shrugged, "Gotta face my demons."
And that was exactly what Y/N did. Without Camila knowing, she made a stop toward the raven-haired demon who'd sent her life spiraling for the second time.

Y/N sat between the concrete dividers, tapping her feet impatiently as she waited for Lauren's arrival. The room was filled with chatter and faint crying, it reminded her of the times her mother would drag her along to jail visits to see her father.
Through the thick window pane, Y/N caught sight of dark tousled hair. Lauren froze at the sight of her visitor, earning a nudge from the guard behind her. She took a seat, holding the tattered phone to her ear. Y/N shuffled with the long gray cord before pulling the phone to the side of her face.
"You always hated the color orange," Y/N smirked, jesting at the orange jumpsuit Lauren was forced to wear.
Lauren rolled her eyes, "Why are you here?"
The truth was, Y/N needed to confront her, to dig through Lauren's facade. She needed answers.
"Why did you hurt Camila?" Y/N never understood Lauren's motivation for harming Camila. She knew Lauren struggled to keep her emotions in check but to her knowledge, she'd never been physical when they were younger.
Only Lauren's breathing was heard over the phone, Y/N stared intently through the window, locking their eyes.
"My dad used to hit my mother..."
Lauren's eyes flickered with interest.
"I know why you and him got along so well," Y/N pointed to their past encounters. Her father always had a soft spot for Lauren, perhaps they'd bonded over their similar character.
"Y/N, I never knew...I'm sorry,"
"I don't need your pity, that's not what I'm here for."
Lauren nodded firmly, she moved closer to the window, holding the phone to her mouth.
"I was never enough for my dad," She softly explained, Y/N raised an eyebrow in thought. Lauren was right, her father had always placed expectations she'd fail to meet.
