"Ok Elizabeth it's time for bed," I said standing in front of the tv.
"But I don't want to," she whined.
"The quicker you go to bed the faster your birthday comes," I pleaded. I just needed her to go to bed, raising a child basically by yourself was hard.
"No," she said pouting.
"So you want to stay three forever?" I questioned.
"Yes." Now I know where she got her stubbornness from. I let out a sigh.
"Elizabeth Horan," I said sternly.
"Fine," she said getting up. I picked her up resting her on my hip. I carried her up the stairs to her room, placing her in her bed. I tucked the covers around her, kissing her head.
"Goodnight sweetie," I said adjusting her pillows.
"Goodnight mommy," she said back.
I got up, stepping over the toys lying about.
"Mommy?" I turned around, looking back at my daughter.
"Ya sweetie?" I asked.
"Where's daddy?" I hated it when she asked that question. Sometimes I never knew where he was, and it broke my heart to tell her.
"I don't know," I said quietly.
"When is he coming back then?" she asked.
"I don't know. Just go to bed and we will figure it out in the morning ok?"
"I want daddy."
"I know baby, I know. Just go to bed ok?" I said.
"Ok." She rolled over, her face disappearing in the pillow. I closed the door halfway, just enough to see inside. I made my way downstairs and plopped myself on the couch. One of the boy's interviews was on tonight.
"So how's your little girl Niall?" the interviewer asked.
"She's great," he said with a smile.
"How old is she now?" she asked.
"She just turned 2," he said. This interview was from a couple years ago.
I changed the channel, settling for a cheesy soap opera. I closed my eyes for just one minute and ended up drifting away in a light sleep.
I was awoken by someone coming in the front door. I was relieved to see the familiar blonde hair. I watched him as he quietly tried to sneak upstairs. I felt like the concerned mother who was waiting for her teenage son to come home after curfew so she could catch him in the act. I let out a snicker.
"Hey what are you still doing up?" he asked walking over to me.
"I fell asleep waiting for you," I said sitting up. He came over, leaned in and kissed my forehead.
"Sorry, things went late in the studio today. How's the little princess? Did she go to bed easy?" he asked. He sat down beside me, wrapping his arm around my shoulders.
"Not too bad. She was asking for you again." He let out a sigh.
"I'm sorry baby," he said kissing my cheek.
"Not your fault," I said cuddling into his side.
"Well you should go to bed, we have Elizabeth's party tomorrow." He got up and then helped me get up. We walked upstairs together, him following behind me. I turned around just in time to see him go into Elizabeth's room. I stood in the door way watching them. He leaned in and kissed her forehead, then readjusted her blankets automatically waking her up.
"Daddy!" she yelled wrapping her small arms around his neck.
"Princess!" he said hugging her back.
"Where were you daddy?" she asked.
"I was in the studio," he said, tucking her dark hair behind her ears. She got my dark hair and Niall's ocean blue eyes.
"Oh. Are you going to be there tomorrow?"
"Yes of course sweetie! I wouldn't miss it for the world! Ok now go to bed. You don't want you to be tired for tomorrow."
"Ok daddy," she said sliding back in to her bed.
"Love you princess," he said kissing her forehead again.
"Love you daddy." He covered her up and walked out the door. I couldn't help but smile. It was moments like this that made everything worth while.
"What?" he said grinning.
"She worships you. How come you can get her to go to bed so easily but I can't?" He chuckled wrapping his arms around my waist.
"Daddy's girl, I guess." I rested my head on his chest. We stood there for awhile in each other's arms. "I'm sorry for not being here," he whispered.
"It's not your fault," I mumbled against his chest.
"Let me make it up to you," he said in my ear.
"What did you have in mind?" I said smirking, knowing what he was thinking. He swept me off my feet, carrying me to the bedroom bridal style.
"You know what."
