Kim Crawford - Palos Hills Hotel - 11:57 (PM)

As soon as we get to the hotel - that seemed to be so, so far- a loud creak is made due to the instantaneous jump created by Jack and I on top of the heavenly soft bed.

I've never been a girl to adore beds, I've never had time for that, nor did I like going to bed before the sun started rising and waking up after the chicken's salute.

Okay, so maybe I did sleep more than fifteen minutes, but you get the point.

Anywho, the moment my back made contact with the comfortable material, where everything and everyone appeared to be safe, I regretted every single moment I spent away from it.

I shut my eyes, noticing in the process that Jack had done the same, and let the smell of lavender surround me, the silence never ending yet perfectly peaceful.

"I feel like I've just met my long lost twin" Jack says with a grunt and a rough voice which is completely replaced my a sigh of adoration.

"I feel like I'm going to be spending all the time I've lost with my long lost twin right in this very instant" I whisper, earning a short yet meaningful chuckle from Jack.

Everything's perfect, the welcoming sheets that cover the heavenly mattress, the light smell of lavender surrounding the room, even the huge body that was millimeters away from me.

But that's a bit too perfect if you ask me.

My point was proven right the minute I hear a faint sound created from the door and a rough voice following it.

"Oh look at how cute they are, maybe we should let them sleep" a man in his late forties fake whispered to who I'm assuming is his colleague or helper, a small fit of chuckles accompanying the sentence.

"Ah yes, maybe we should just join the party" another voice, spoken from a younger male, appeared in the room and I sighed in defeat, too tired to look up.

What a great spy I am.

I assume that Jack has the same thought, according to his loud groan of pain as he tumbles out of the bed, earning a thump.

"Listen, I get it. We're supposed to kill each other and all. But really, time out anyone?" Jack tries to negotiate with the two or three men, I still haven't looked up.

"That's cute kid, real cute. But we have the advantage, in both people and mental stability at the moment. Do you really think some cheap pleads will dethrone us from this opportunity?" A third voice says matter of factly, and then a loud crash of mirrors is heard echoing throughout the room.

There is a 10 second pause, as if no one dares speak, but it is interrupted by the sound of a kick and a grunt.

Jack.

I lift my head up, sleep covering my eyes, and sigh, trying to stand up.

Never have I ever felt so defenseless and useless.

Jack side punches one of the three men and stands up in an arm push.

He dodges a swift punch offered from the oldest looking man and returns it straight on the stomach, between the ribs and the belly button.

A lazy yet loud cheer escapes my lips, causing each and every person of the room to turn towards me, making me the center of attention.

My checks tinge red in embarrassment before decomposing myself, standing up.

But it's too late.

My arms and legs have already been caught by the strong adversaries and I find myself struggling to breathe, never mind move.

I slightly sob, earning chuckles and amused looks by the scary people.

"Wait, she's the best girl spy in the industry? Might I say, that's quite sad and desperate" The younger voice teases, and everyone laughs.

"And you're actually considered spies? Might I say, that's quite sad and desperate" Jack replies sarcastically, but I'm not able to see what he's referring to. As soon as a hand removes its grip, I'm able to look towards Jack.

He's holding the Plan A folder that I hadn't realized was here, and is also holding a tight smirk on his tired yet perfect face.

Soon another pair of hands looses contact with me and I sigh in relief, finally being able to breathe normally.

I kick the man that still hasn't let go of me's torso, earning a yelp.

"Came from Seaford
And thank the Lord
I can fight without a sword,
So all aboard,
To my surfboard
Cause it's Kim Crawford"
I sing in my head while doing a short happy dance.

I don't have many friends.

When the guys start looking at me, I stop and pull the folder out of Jack's grip, winking at him.

"Now, boys" I tease, their hungry eyes looking at the folder, their only mission to save the piece of paper. "Take one more step, I dare you." I chuckle, and no one makes a move.

Jack coughs and becomes the center of attention for a couple of seconds, before everyone's gaze returns to me.

I reply with an approving smile and bring the folder towards the railing, shifting it so that one hard wind stroke and it goes bye bye.

When they think I'm not looking, too concentrated on the folder, they make a run towards me.

That's my cue.

I open my fingers in a swift move and make the paper fall down through cars and traffic, their frantic look amusing me (Jack too).

I pretend to swipe dust off of my hands and then make a short nod, the men too busy running for their lives.

Scratch that, for their folder.

Scratch that, for their fake folder.

As soon as I see Jack get ready the run, I enter a fit of laughs, only stopping a couple of seconds at a time and noticing Jack's confused expression.

"I-I-ahahaha" I try speaking, but it won't work.

After calming down, I take a deep breath and speak.

"I switched the folders while walking towards the window when you sneezed. I had some information from an old mission that is irrelevant now. That mission is old news, exposed, useless. Well, or so I thought. It did give me a good laugh" I laugh again and, after a long minute, Jack joins me.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with Mr. Bed. Wanna join?" I wink and he nods exasperatedly and we jump on the bed simultaneously.

Ah, this is the life.

                              * * *

So hi.
Yes, I'm still alive.
No, you may not kill me.
I hope that this chapter's okay, I finished writing it at 4am and I was pretty much feeling exactly like Jack and Kim, apart from, you know, the creepy spies and stuff.

Qotd: how are you guys liking the book so far? ❤️
