The scan

Steve was woken by being poked in the face. What the? He rubbed his eyes and put his glasses on, Sylvia was standing there with a cup tea for him. thank you, it's not like you to be up before me. Yeah Christine woke me up. Oh yeah forgot she was here how is the little terror? I'm letting her hang around for breakfast and that but then I'm gonna send her home. Ok will she need a lift? Only if you want to. Yeah it's no trouble. Ok I'll go tell her now get dressed. Sylvia skipped out the room and Steve put his tea down next to the bed and got himself dressed. He looked at his phone and realised the date November 24th he wondered if Sylvia had forgotten as he made his way down stairs. Hey Sylvia are you aware of what today is? Yes it's my 10 week scan today thank you for reminding me need to be at the hospital at 2. He placed his cup on the table and sat down, she had forgotten he couldn't believe she had forgotten but he guessed she has had allot on her plate at the moment he could allow that she had forgotten and maybe drop a few hints. Gosh well I suppose I should take Christine home now it takes what like?...40 minutes to get there and it's, 40 past 9 now. Ok? well I dunno what route your taking because 40 minutes seems a bit long but alright, you got everything Christine? *Yes I think so.* Ok see you later. Sylvia came and gave Steve a peck on the lips and disappeared upstairs. Steve huffed and grabbed his keys and headed towards the front door. *You alright?* Yep just lovely. There was a harsh tone in his voice, he knew it was uncalled for as Christine didn't do anything and he sighed. Just go get in the car. She hurried out the door and in the car and Steve sluggishly followed.  

He got back from taking Christine home and it appeared Sylvia hadn't come down from upstairs. Sylv!? He called up the stairs and stood silent for a moment to see if he got a reply, there was no response. He made his way up the stairs just in case she hadn't heard him, he looked around but she wasn't there, he looked out the window to see if she was in the garden but she wasn't. He went back downstairs confused to where as she had gone, he decided to call her. *I am sorry but the number you are trying to call is unavailable* Normally she always answered calls from him and he always knew where she was she told him everything even if she was just popping to the shop she would call him and let him know just in case she wasn't home when he back from where ever. He sat down on the couch thinking this was all rather strange when he heard the front door open. Oh I didn't think you'd be back yet that was rather quick considering you said it took you 40 minutes. Gosh I was wondering where you were normally you text or call me when you go out. Yeah sorry I just went up the shop. He stopped and looked at her for a moment. But you don't have any shopping?  Yeah I know I just fancied some chocolate I ate it on the way home sorry if I worried you. He felt suspicious but he didn't know what of but he decided he'd drop it. No every things fine would you like some tea? Yes please. 

Steve was just popping on his shoes to take Sylvia to the hospital, he still couldn't believe she hadn't remembered he felt for sure she'd suddenly realise. Ok well I believe I've got everything I need you ready? Uh yeah. Fantastic lets go then. Whats with the huge bag? It's got my drawing stuff in. Why are you taking that? Gosh why are you so fucking tall? Whats with all the questions today? Jesus. Sorry was just wondering. They went out and got in the car as they were about to leave Sylvia received a text. Who's that? Ricky he wants to know if we'd like to pop round his after the scan I've said yes so your coming. Great ok what if I had something planned. Well do you? No....but that's not the point. Fine do you want me to tell him we're not coming? No we'll go just maybe ask in future. Your in a right mood today. Yeah I wonder why. Can we just get going now. Steve pulled off the drive and they made there way. The journey seemed to feel much longer than it really was with silence throughout the car, Steve didn't understand what was going on today Sylvia had never seemed so distant, what was running through her mind that she didn't want to say. They arrived at the hospital and Sylvia finally put her phone away, she seemed to have been texting Ricky the whole journey. A horrible thought went through Steve's mind, but he trusted Sylvia, and Ricky would never do that to him or Jane, but it seemed to kind of make sense. Was she cheating on him with his best friend?

Steve sat silent as they were in the waiting room lost in his own thoughts. This couldn't be right there was no way that was happening but he couldn't stop this terrible feeling, why was she texting Ricky so much and come to think of it all that week she seemed to be texting him allot. He was snapped back to reality when the doctor called out their names. *Right this way please.* They followed the doctor to the room and Sylvia layed down on the bed for the scan. Sylvia's face lit up as the tiny forming of a baby showed up on the screen. That's our baby Stephen look at it. He smiled and held her hand. Just brilliant. He then felt really bad, Sylvia wouldn't do that to him why was he suddenly being so paranoid he knows Ricky and Sylv are just friends and seeing her face now reminded him out of all the people Sylvia could've been with she had chosen him. I'm sorry. Sylvia looked up at him confused. Sorry for what? For being such a knob today. We all have our bad days. Steve smiled at Sylvia, she was so wise, he just loved her view on life it was always reassuring. Yeah we certainly do. *Ok well that's it then your baby is perfectly healthy we can't tell the sex of the baby at this stage but we'll be able to give a gender in a few weeks.* Thank you doctor. As they left the hospital there seemed to be almost a look of excitement on Sylvia's face maybe it was something to do with finding out what gender the baby is soon Steve assumed. They got in the car. Alright to Ricky's then. Yes off we go. As Steve was driving he glimpsed over at Sylvia every so often there was that big smile on her face he always loved and as they pulled up outside Ricky's she seemed to clap her hands with glee, Steve decided to ignore this. They went up to the door and knocked. *Hi come on in how was the scan?* excellent the baby is perfectly healthy. They headed in the living room and Steve froze at the frame.

SURPRISE!  What the hell? Sylvia came to his side. Of course I hadn't fucking forgot your birthday you silly bum. Steve started smiling, he certainly was surprised and he started laughing and shook his head. Man alive oh I can't believe I didn't see this coming. The room was filled with close friends and family and decorations every where. Sylvia holds up her bag to Steve. C'mon lets go. What? We are gonna go get changed. Steve looks in the bag and sees its filled with nice clothes for them to wear. This makes allot more sense. They go upstairs and get changed and then come back down to the party. So Ricky since when did you remember my birthday? *Since you got a girlfriend that made it impossible to forget.*  Steve smiled and glanced over at Sylvia. Yeah I sure am lucky.
