Chapter 4

"Ugh what do you want?"

"What were you expecting someone else? You don't wanna see me?"

"Jason, I see you every day, before, during, and after school, forgot?"

He shook his head, "My house is not the best place to talk about a rescue mission. You know because of the five year old strapped to your hip and the new neighbor coming over to hang out with us. It was your idea he come, forgot?" He was mocking me with every word but he was right so I can't argue.

"Whatever, there's this new kid and I strongly dislike this guy, so maybe I'm a horrible friend or whatever but I've been trying my hardest to not think about the whole Eve situation." I closed my eyes and dragged my hands down my face. This is way too much stress for one fifteen year old girl.

"Sorry Cuz, I do hate to see you like this but if your serious-"

I cut him off sharply and whispered as harshly as I could, "I am dead serious about saving my best friend and you don't have to pity me. But do you want to know why I'm so serious?"

I didn't give him a chance to answer, "Because weather it is or not I know this is my entire fault. If I-"

"If you what," he asked challengingly.

I sighed and let my shoulders sag, "I don't know."

He shook his head, "Look I don't want to make you feel even crappier, actually the opposite, but, where ever Eve is she's not happy. And again I'm sorry, but no matter what you may not want to believe, her parents haven't called the police. For whatever reason, I have no clue."

Now that I think about it her parents haven't called the police. I mean if they did then wouldn't there be and ongoing investigation, with a lot of people asking questions. And what about my friends, I haven't called any of them, which would've been a good idea, but wouldn't they have noticed she left early or was missing? I mean they all at least have one class with her before school let out, whether it is homeroom or an actual class. I'll ask at lunch.

Jason and I decided to check with our friends at lunch, head over to the police after school, and go from there.

I was the first at our table and Jason went to go sit at his table across the room, which included Andrew. What if he asks me out? I should give him a chance. I mean if Josh can date in public so can I right?

"Hello Beautiful," said, huh, speak of the devil.

"Hey," I smiled.

"Sorry I didn't come see you at Study Hall. I had to take a class and I left my phone in my locker. How about I walk you home and we can have our private time then," he said taking his seat across from me.

"Josh, if someone else asked me out and I said yes would that be okay with you," I asked fiddling with my peas and avoiding his question. I know I am quite the multitasker.

He took a deep breath, let it out and said, "Well...sure I mean if you want to. You are single as far as everybody else knows."

I looked up at him to see him staring at something across the room. I turned my head to look in the same direction and my eyes immediately fell on Jared.

I turned back around, "What, did you have a run in with the new school dick too?"

His eyes snapped back to me and laughed. Okay?

"No, he just looks like one. Glad to hear I'm a good judge of character. But anyway, why does it matter if I'd be alright with you dating someone else? Did someone ask you out," he smirked as if there was a private joke I wasn't a part of.

"No just wondering. Anyway I'll call you tonight. Here Maddi comes," I said just as Maddi walked over to our table.

"Hey Nae, J-Dog," she greeted. Maddi and her crazy nick names.

We both offered our greetings as she nodded her head over to Jared.

"You guys met the hot new guy," she asked with her usual douse of sexual excitement. I guess he is hot. His Black hair is iridescent in the Louisiana sun, his almost, and seemingly, black eyes are almost like black holes as they give off only the light they tend to swallow, his school shirt pressed crisply with the top button open, his tie worn, like his pants, loosely. His biceps peek out of his skin slightly, like a hidden challenge. His strong build is as dominating as it is hidden. Scratch what I said about being considered hot; he's actually so hot he's ice cold. The dark beauty that radiates off of him is almost enough to suffocate someone.

"See what I mean. He's so smokin' hot he has Naomi in a daze," Maddi giggled.

I shook my head a bit as I realized he was walking my way. Dammit! Bad enough I have to deal with this jerk all day now he wants my lunch too? Now I'm just pissed. Funny how he can ruin my mood even when it was about him.

Maddi looked at me and winked, "Don't worry I got this one."

She stood up and made sure her skirt was high enough and her lips sticky enough as Jared got closer.

"Hey you do look incredibly sexy but I came over here for her," He said as he pointed to me not taking his eyes off Maddi. boys. His eyes raked over her body countless times and yet he was asking for me. Maddi always did have that effect on guys but this time I'm actually jealous. He did call me sexy but he didn't look at me like that.

I huffed out, "What do you want. You have the next half of the day to bother me, why do you also want my Lunch time?"

He chuckled, "I was suffering from bitch withdrawal and I was wondering if you could give me another little dose so I can last until next period," he rolled his eyes, "I need your Science notes, I was too lost in your eyes to get them during class to get them myself." His tone was a bit sarcastic but a bit truthful also, but I was too busy being pissed to notice.

"Well Ass Hat, like a smart person I put my books up and packed before lunch so I don't have the notes with me. Now unless you're done pissing me off I would like to get back to my friends and this cold plate of shit," I was fuming but I pushed it down and let it fizzle out before I did something I would regret.

"I'll be by your locker after school to get them Shit Face," before he could turn around and walk off with that cocky grin on his face I wiped it off with my bowl of mashed potatoes.

After that all the amusement was gone and he threw peas from a neighboring table at me. I dodged left and it hit Josh in the face. Josh then returned with a bowl of peas himself to throw at Jared but instead hit Stacey who was walking up to greet him. She shirked and ran out the door as an all-out food fight started.

Food fights on TV are so not like the real thing. Some kids were smart and got the hell outta here but a few stayed in and did the dirty. They are all mostly new so they don't understand the hugeness of the situation. I pity them. I bet they'll rat me out too.

Watching the fight from under a table with a head full of mash potatoes, ketch-up, peas, and chicken fingers, the only thing I can think about is how much trouble I'm going to be in. But also being under here a thought hit me, only Josh and Maddi showed up at Lunch today. Where is the rest of my friends?

I got up and ran to the door, just as it opened, and Principle Jones walked in.

Trying to escape the crime scene huh," He asked with a raised brow, crossing his arms, and you know that look adults give you when they're 'very disappointed'? Yea he had that look with a bit of prissiness. Boy, am I in deep.
