"Mrs. Marks?" I said. "Hello Adam," She said. "Come on in," I said. She walked in and sat on the couch. I followed behind her and sat next to her.
"What can I do for you Mrs. Marks?" I asked her. "Lena sent me a letter," She said. "Really? She sent me a letter too," I said. "She told me. Did she divorce you and leave you sole custody of the kids?" She asked. "Yes, she did. She gave me her wedding ring and engagement ring back, too." I said.
"Adam, the divorce isn't final until you turn the papers in," She said. "What are you trying to say?" I asked her. "Fight for her, Adam. Find her. Get her back. My daughter was so happy when you came back in her life." She said before she pulled a stack of letters out of her purse and handed them to me.
"These are all the notes that Lena wrote me after you came back in her life. She wrote me every week, just to tell me about something you did that she loved. She was truly happy with you Adam. After Sarah died, she told me her plan. She was sure that she wasn't going to go through with it, until you cheated on her. She loved you Adam and she still does." She said.
I looked through the letters. There had to be at least 100 letters. "Fight for her Adam. If not for yourself, then for the girls. They need their mom in their life. Find Lena and get her back. You're the man she belongs with." She said. "Thank you Mrs. Marks," I said before I hugged her. "Well, I better get going. Keep the letters." She said before she left.
I looked through the stack when I came across a folded scrap of paper. I opened it and read the note that was written on it.
Lena's leaving for the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas tonight. Go get her back -Mrs. Marks
I grabbed all the letters and took them upstairs. I set them on my dresser and walked to the closet. I pulled out my suitcase and started packing shirts, jeans, swim trunks, underwear, and shoes. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called Jesse.
"Hey Jes," I said. "Hey, what's up?" He asked. "Lena's mom came over and told me that Lena is leaving for the Bahamas tonight. I need you to book the girls and I a flight from here to the Bahamas and a room at the Atlantis Resort." I said as I packed my toiletries and set them in my suitcase. "Alright, I'll be over in 10 with the tickets," He said. "Thanks man," I said before I hung up.
I walked into Kennedy's room. She rolled over and looked at me. "Sweetie, get up. We're going on vacation," I said as I grabbed her suitcase out of her closet and grabbed everything she would need. "Yay!" She exclaimed as she ran into Adalyn's room and I followed behind her.
I packed all of Adalyn's things in her suitcase and brought their suitcases downstairs along with mine. The girls followed behind me with their teddy bears, that they brought everywhere, in their arms. Jesse rang the doorbell and walked in.
"Here you go. Your private jet leaves in 30 minutes," Jesse said before he went to go put the suitcases in the car. I grabbed our passports and my wallet along with my phone. "Alright, ready to go girls?" I asked them. "Yes!" They exclaimed before we went out to the car and drove to the airport.
30 minutes later, our plane took off. The girls fell asleep right away, hugging their teddy bears close to their chests. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through old pictures of our family.
I came across a photo that I took the day I met Sarah. It was Sarah, Lena, and I with marinara sauce all over our faces. A tear rolled down my cheek as I looked at Sarah's smile. I missed that smile. And her laugh. I only knew her for 2 years and then she was taken away. I missed her so much. And I was determined not to lose Lena.
A couple scrolls later, I came across our wedding picture. Lena looked stunning. She wore a strapless mermaid style dress that fit her perfectly. We all looked so happy. That was one of the best days of my life. Tears streamed down my face as I scrolled through more pictures.
7 hours later, I woke up. I must've fallen asleep. "Mr. Levine, we're here," the flight attendant said. I woke up the girls and an hour later, we were at the resort.
When we got into the room, the girls ran in. The suite was huge. Jesse reserved our stay for a week. The girls ran into the second bedroom and collapsed onto the bed. I set their suitcases in their room and tucked them in. "Goodnight Addie," I said before I kissed her head. "Goodnight daddy," She said. I walked over to the other side of the bed. "Goodnight Kennedy," I said before I kissed her head. "Goodnight daddy," She said. "I love you girls," I said before I shut the light off and shut the door.
I walked into my bedroom and collapsed on the bed. Hopefully tomorrow, I would find Lena.
The Next Day
I woke up to the girls jumping on my bed. "Come on daddy! We want to go swimming!" They screamed. They were already in their swimsuits. "Go in the living room and I'll be right out," I said before they ran off.
I pulled a pair of black swim trunks and a white v-neck from my suitcase. I pulled them on along with Nike sandals and walked out to the girls. "Ready?" I asked them. "Ready!" They shouted before we headed to the pool.
I set our beach towels on a chair as the girls ran into the pool. I made my way towards the pool when I stopped dead in my tracks. There was a beautiful tan woman laying on one of the lounge chairs. It was the woman that attracted me 18 years ago in an LA club. The girl that birthed my 3 beautiful daughters. The woman I married. The woman I love. The love of my life.
It was Lena.
